For this photoshoot amidst the pink muhly grass sea at Binjiang Forest Park, I prepared a fantasy elf-style coordinate perfectly tuned to the romantic autumn atmosphere. To complement the pink of the muhly grass, I deliberately selected an asymmetrical cut dress mixing light blue and white; this blue-and-pink color blocking avoids looking cluttered on camera and instead delivers a remarkably refreshing visual impact. The lace flower crown, purple ribbons, and the translucent white sheer veil draping down the back were all incorporated to enhance the overall styling's lightness and layered depth.
Let's talk about the hair and makeup in detail. To craft distinct elf features, I wore a long light-pink gradient wig and meticulously secured silicone elf ears with special prosthetic adhesive, blending the edges seamlessly with liquid foundation. On the makeup front, to accentuate a otherworldly, ethereal aesthetic, the eyeshadow leaned into reddish-brown tones paired with bright blue circle lenses, dotted with fine rhinestone glitter at the inner and outer corners of the eyes so the eye makeup would shimmer with a watery, luminous texture under direct sunlight. The bow and gold bell at the collar added a rich touch of fantasy color.
For props, I chose a vintage brown wicker handbag alongside a beautifully wrapped bouquet of white roses. Resting the wicker case beside me anchored the bottom weight of the frame, enriching compositional depth so the scene wasn't solely composed of a person and vast grass. Since I needed to sit directly within the grass, to protect the fragile plants and keep the dress clean from soil, I laid a thick white waterproof mat underneath. Sitting down required intentional posing; I opted for a side-profile curved-leg posture, which naturally showcases the leg lines clad in over-the-knee White stockings. The skirt hem fanned out naturally, and combined with the subtle indentation where the stockings grip the skin, it wove a touch of fitting sensuality and realism right into the dreamy innocence.
Lighting control was crucial for this shoot. To capture the hazy, dreamy bloom native to pink muhly grass, I heavily utilized backlighting. Around 3:00 to 4:00 PM, the lower sun angle filtered through the stems of the grass, and paired with a soft-focus filter, it bathed the entire frame in a magical halo. Tilting my chin slightly upward with a hand resting gently near my ear, I gazed softly toward the camera while the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the background pink grass sea into abstract color masses, retaining crystal clarity solely on the portrait and the golden rim light outlining the hair strands.
I also want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that pink muhly grass stalks are exceptionally fragile; once crushed flat over a large area, they struggle to recover. Therefore, please try to stand along pre-existing trail edges during shoots, or use a protective mat like I did, and never trample the flower beds simply to create the illusion of being submerged in a sea of blooms. Wearing elf ears and a wig outdoors is genuinely exhausting work—the silicone ear pieces ache after prolonged wear, and the wig tangles easily in the wind, requiring constant touch-ups with styling spray. Yet seeing that stunning collision of pink and blue in the finished frames makes every bit of fatigue completely worthwhile.
