Releasing this Cheshire Cosplay set before Comicup 31 is both a showcase of my work and a little way to connect with fellow convention-goers. Since I'm sharing this post, I thought I'd use this shooting experience to chat about some costume details and fun little moments from the shoot.
First, regarding the look itself: the most eye-catching part is definitely the coordination between the hair and eye colors. To recreate that authentic texture, the wig features silver-grey base hair with vibrant teal-blue gradient highlights. The silver-grey on the top and bangs maintains the character's cool elegance, while the teal-blue tips are the standout highlight of the whole wig. To match this palette, I specially picked high-brightness teal-blue contact lenses paired with cool-toned eyeshadow, aiming for a makeup look that feels gorgeous yet lively and playful. The contrasting cat-ear headband on top is crafted from high-quality blue velvet trimmed with white ruffles; its structured shape required careful positioning to sit harmoniously with the wig.
The costume design is remarkably exquisite. The main bodice features a deep navy corset style that I love—this dark tone anchors the overall palette so it doesn't look too flimsy. Subtle metallic accents and golden piping add just the right amount of weight and structure to the cut. The collar and cuffs incorporate classic maid elements: cascading layers of white ruffles and lace not only add depth, but also soften the rigid corset structure with a sweet touch. Black sheer lace mesh is patched across the shoulders like a mini-shawl, enriching the upper silhouette. The skirt is an airy, multi-layered white ruffled mini, creating a sharp contrast against the dark top. Most noteworthy are the white soft tulle train extending from the hem and the royal blue trailing streamers from the cuffs and skirt. These streamers create incredible dynamic flow during movement, serving as a huge visual plus in studio or convention shoots.
A detail many might overlook is the footwear coordination. This time, I went with sheer white stockings (a white thigh-highs outfit) paired with glossy black patent leather high heels featuring ankle straps. This combination elongates the leg lines, and the subtle sheen of patent leather against the white stockings catches the studio lighting brilliantly, elevating the finished polish of the entire look. Of course, posing on one leg wearing high heels was a fun test of balance and ankle strength.
Speaking of poses, the one-legged stance might look simple, but conveying lightness and dynamic tension is quite tricky. To match the outfit's playfulness, I lightly raised my right hand near my jawline while naturally extending my left arm to the side, slightly twisting my torso to concentrate my center of gravity on the standing leg. This pose clearly displays the costume's full silhouette, the sweep of the streamers, and the contrast between white stockings and black heels. Timing the shutter was crucial for the photographer, as the slightest wobble from shifting balance could blur the shot. Full-body framing not only showcases the entire outfit, but also creates a striking contrast between the spacious venue and the ornate styling.
As for the setting, we chose an industrial-style indoor venue resembling a large exhibition hall. Exposed steel trusses on the ceiling, neatly aligned overhead lights, and reflective concrete floors lend a spacious, cool, and crisp atmosphere. This minimalist, cool-toned backdrop made the intricate blue, black, and white costume and playful poses pop effortlessly. Floor lighting was key to shaping three-dimensional depth while reflecting long, elegant reflections that balanced the overall composition.
With Comicup 31 approaching, this costume was specially prepared for the event. From styling the wig and adjusting the fit to adding anti-slip pads to the heels, a lot of dedication went into it. Navigating crowded halls with wide skirts and long streamers can be a bit tricky, but it's completely worth it to bring the character to life. Beyond taking pretty pictures, conventions are all about meeting fellow enthusiasts and making friends.
