[New Jersey cosplay] Azur Lane Racing Suit: An Authentic Clash of Thick Thighs and a Soft Tummy

Today's New Jersey Racing suit is something I truly have a love-hate relationship with. The original character design is exceptionally form-fitting. To faithfully capture that tight, sleek vibe of a cyberpunk pit girl, I deliberately chose high-gloss leather and snug shorts. From the second I slipped into it, I knew today would be an uphill battle—especially with these over-the-knee leg sleeves (Stockings), which were painfully tight. Every time I squatted down or straddled the motorcycle, the flesh along my upper thighs was visibly squeezed into pronounced indentations. And that little bit of tummy accumulation you see around my waist really wasn't because I gained weight; the outfit was simply so tight that it forcibly squeezed the softness out. I actually tried smoothing out all the tummy curves during post-processing, but after several attempts, it looked completely fake. So I decided to just let it be: preserving a touch of natural, voluptuous softness is actually quite endearing. After all, in an era saturated with paper-thin silhouettes, a bit of authentic plushness feels far more lively.

A huge thank you to photographer @Weixiao and the venue @Sanmiao Photography Studio. The set design was thoroughly crafted; the interplay of gritty industrial darkness and neon glow resonated seamlessly with New Jersey's dangerous yet mesmerizing aura. I especially loved that navy-blue heavy motorcycle. To make the poses look natural, I constantly recalibrated my seated and standing stances. Photo 1 is a candid capture on the bike: I was attempting an alluring pose, but the leg sleeves were so tight that I couldn't even bend my waist properly, barely managing to lean sideways with a strained smile. In Photo 2's standing version, placing both hands on my hips looks simple, but my core was clutched tightly throughout—relaxing for even a second would let my tummy pop right out. Yet as a cosplayer, stepping before the lens means bringing your absolute best, keeping expressions radiant even when the costume leaves you breathless.

New Jersey in Azur Lane is naturally a character with a voluptuous figure and an upbeat personality. To embrace the endearing charm of these Thick thighs and soft tummy, I intentionally avoided extreme dieting. Many people ask who could possibly appreciate a figure with a bit of a tummy, but aesthetic standards have never been one-dimensional. These authentic bodily contours, combined with the snug constriction of the racing suit, tight shorts, and black leather gloves, unexpectedly spark a distinctive visual tension. Styling the wig and goggles took genuine effort as well; to fit the head shape snugly, numerous clips were anchored inside the wig, leaving my scalp somewhat numb by the end of the day. Makeup focused on blue contact lenses and subtle reddish eyeshadow, aiming to capture her signature blend of nonchalant ease and magnetic confidence. Throughout the shoot, I continuously coordinated lighting angles with the photographer, using the studio's cool-toned lights to accentuate the reflective gloss of the fabric. While retouching the soft curves and squeeze marks took some trial and error, the final result was deeply rewarding. This post is a reminder that cosplay isn't just about pursuing sterile, picture-perfect recreation—it's also about embracing your authentic body. Whether it's the snug squeeze or the plush curves, they are all authentic memories woven into this creative work. I hope everyone can feel the heartfelt dedication behind this shoot.
