[Skadi the Corrupting Heart cosplay] Waterside BTS: Don't Ask If My Hat Is Heavy

This Skadi the Corrupting Heart cosplay outfit is truly packed with details, but it was also a real experience of "beauty comes with pain." Looking at the character art before, I thought that large pointed hat and headpiece looked super imposing, but I didn't expect the head weight to completely exceed my expectations once on. The hat isn't just large—the cross metal rods and chains on it are all solid materials; even a slight slip in attention makes my head tilt to one side. During shooting, whenever there was a bit of wind, I had to tense my neck muscles tightly for fear these heavy ornaments would come crashing down. But compared to the hat, what gave me an even bigger headache was that staff prop—when I got it in hand, I complained about how overly solid the craftsmanship was. The crystal structure at the top of the staff is heavy, and posing in a single-handed ground-resting stance really exercised my core strength.

But honestly, the final results of this outdoor shoot were truly stunning, and that pain-and-pleasure feeling dissipated the moment I saw the photos. The shooting location I chose was beside a large lake in the suburbs, with residential buildings of varying heights in the distance under an overcast sky and greyish-white ripples on the lake surface. This cool-toned, serene environment matched Skadi the Corrupting Heart's aloof, slightly detached aura perfectly. The main outfit's red-black-white color clash stood out brilliantly against the grey-toned water background, and the white wig was styled smoothly. Combined with lip color and eyeliner, the overall makeup was exceptionally clean and crisp, which was definitely key to producing great photos in this Anime-style fashion display.

I also put thought into interacting with props; in these photos, I mainly presented a relaxed yet slightly guarded posture. Sitting on rocks by the water with silver high-heeled boots resting against the stone edge, the black crisscross thigh straps showcased her sexy elements well without looking forced. The garment features rich layering, with aged dark fabric stacked around shoulders and arms, while chest and neck cutouts exposed collarbones, making me look both powerful and petite. On set, I constantly adjusted the angle of holding the staff, hoping its lines would form a natural visual extension with my body curves.

Outdoor photography really tests a photographer's adaptability, especially with a top-heavy look like mine where finding angles displaying costume details without throwing frame balance off is extremely tough. Light changed rapidly by the water; right before sunset, we shot continuously while the photographer communicated gaze and shoulder orientations with me, and I constantly searched for the feel, striving to present that ideal slightly melancholic yet untouchable aura. Outdoor shoots differ from studio sessions—weather and natural surroundings bring many surprises to photos. For instance, in the last side-profile photo, evening glow reflected across the water surface, tinting distant high-rises in a gentle orange-pink hue, instantly maxing out the atmosphere. These BTS shots are just a small recording of the shooting process. Though the headpiece was truly heavy and limited my motion range, faithfully restoring a beloved character in Arknights makes even a tough process deeply meaningful. Compared to special effects and post-processing, I prefer the authenticity and vitality brought by real-world Waterside photography, where the casual nature of BTS preserves many natural moments.
