This New Year Cheongsam cosplay shoot for Cheshire from Azur Lane (Cheshire Cosplay) actually didn't take much time from planning to execution, because the moment I saw this outfit, I felt it was perfectly suited for the festive and celebratory atmosphere of the New Year. Unlike routine daily photoshoots, a look with clear holiday themes often requires extra thought in color coordination and props to make the visuals truly stand out.
For the makeup and wig, the short silver-grey hair paired with that signature blue highlight streak was the absolute core of this styling. Choosing blue contact lenses was also a finishing touch, making the gaze appear clearer and more spirited; combined with a clean base makeup and natural lip color, the entire look avoided looking overdone while preserving the exquisite delicacy of a 2D anime character.
For the costume, I chose a modernized cheongsam in contrasting red and white. The halter sleeveless design revealed shoulder and arm lines, while the black keyhole cutout and gold embroidery on the chest gave the dress rich textural detail. In front of a solid red background wall, I chose to sit on a vintage Chinese-style wooden chair, with a bamboo birdcage containing a white floral bouquet on my left as a prop accent. This combination of furniture and props filled the frame with a rich traditional Chinese New Year ambiance.
The shooting process was quite engaging. To ensure the folds of the fur shawl and cheongsam remained in top condition, we adjusted the seated pose multiple times throughout. The chair has a slight curve, and sitting for long periods in stockings and high heels actually required core strength to maintain poised elegance. Fortunately, the photographer controlled the lighting with precision, using soft, even front fill so that facial exposure was balanced and my skin texture looked exceptionally translucent. The signature floral hairclip above was also securely fastened, staying perfectly straight without tilting during the shoot.
As mentioned in my social media caption regarding regular styling and healthy expression, this was something I particularly wanted to emphasize this time. Cosplay is not merely putting on a character's costume; more importantly, it's about conveying a healthy, positive lifestyle while showcasing the character's charm. Displaying a confident smile and maintaining an effortless, natural posture before the camera is the true essence of great cosplay.
