[Cheshire Cosplay] Azur Lane Royal Navy Heavy Cruiser: New Year Cheongsam Styling Record

Cosplaying this Azur Lane Cheshire cheongsam New Year design was definitely one of my most satisfying looks from this year's conventions. Seeing so many friends asking about the specific design details, I'm taking the opportunity of this photoshoot release to share my experience with the costume styling and on-site shooting.

The design of the garment itself is exceptionally refined, with a primary palette of vibrant red and pure white, accented by black mesh underlining. The white standing collar on the upper body with gold frog buttons carries a rich classical Chinese charm, while the teardrop cutout on the chest with dark floral black mesh, paired with exposed collarbones, creates strong visual tension. The red skirt features traditional jacquard textures, where the gold-embroidered peony and floral motifs look particularly exquisite. The high-slit skirt hem combined with white safety shorts and lace-trimmed over-the-knee White tights cosplay visually elongates the silhouette while enriching the layered black-white-red color scheme.

When it comes to accessories, we really went all out. The white plush ears on top of my head, combined with oversized red blossoms and tassels, carry significant volume, requiring special care on site to keep them firmly secured. The most eye-catching element was actually the long white plush wrap around my arms, which many passing attendees mistook for a tail or scarf; in reality, it is a wrap-around armlet that can be stretched into flowing silhouettes during shooting, greatly assisting framing and composition.

For the wig, I deliberately chose a silver-grey base with aqua-blue/cyan highlighted tips, which effectively softened the intensity of the bold red. Bright blue contact lenses were chosen to echo the cool tones of the hair tips, aligning well with my portrayal of a cool yet playfully charming style in this Cheshire Cosplay.

This photoset was shot at this year's anime convention, and special thanks go to photographer Pulao411 for on-site posing guidance and quick snapshots. The space was actually quite constrained, with messy equipment and staff in the background, but the photographer skillfully used a dark backdrop and large softbox umbrellas to control the ambient light. The challenge of these Convention photos lies in restricted movement and avoiding unflattering angles, so many poses required repeatedly adjusting my center of gravity—maintaining the poised posture of the cheongsam while managing the airy flow of plush ornaments.

Among the finished photos, I'm personally most satisfied with the shots sitting on the black bar stool: the side profile and leg lines set against the White tights cosplay look remarkably clean, and the waist is neatly defined within the red dress, perfectly avoiding any bulky look from clustered plush arm ornaments. Additionally, the shots sitting on the rug holding the fan also radiate lively charm.

In truth, this costume is much more complicated to wear than it looks. Splicing tulle and satin demands strict tailoring precision; any slight misalignment in form-fitting areas can look either baggy or overly tight. Luckily, the shoulders and underarms of this finished garment were tailored just right—neither pinching uncomfortably nor sagging across the jacquard chest patchwork. The transition between the white shorts and over-the-knee socks sits right at the upper thigh, where balancing breathability and coverage really puts the cosplayer's figure to the test.

Overall, shooting a red-and-white outfit with plush textures during winter or the Lunar New Year aligns wonderfully with the festive spirit. While it avoids the cumbersome dressing of heavy armor cosplays, it has numerous accessories, often requiring holding the long plush armlets by hand while walking to keep them from dropping or collecting dust.
