[Shimoe Koharu cosplay] An Unexpected Ethereal Transparency Captured from the Grandstand

That day, I was wandering aimlessly around the second-floor grandstand of the convention and happened upon a stretch of floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls. The afternoon diffused light was remarkably soft, with the bustling crowd below softly filtering through in the background. I hadn't originally planned to shoot formally here, but finding the ambience so fitting for the mood of Shimoe Koharu's attire, I decided on a whim to take a few shots.

Speaking of this Shimoe Koharu cosplay outfit, the design is packed with clever nuances. The pale pink off-the-shoulder blouse is trimmed with black lace and ruffles, with a black bow at the neckline serving as an anchor for the eyes. The black laced corset around the waist is arguably the centerpiece—it cinches the waist beautifully and transitions seamlessly into the multi-tiered black pleated skirt below, allowing just a hint of lace along the hemline to peek out. To complement the overarching aesthetic, I wore over-the-knee Black stockings paired with glossy platform block heels, where bows on the heels mirrored the bodice accents. The pink geometric halo overhead and the little black wings on each side were crafted from lightweight materials; though light to wear, securing them took careful attention, and I had to watch out that indoor drafts wouldn't blow them askew during shooting.

Because we were inside the convention venue, reflections off the glass were the trickiest obstacle. I made a point of avoiding direct front angles against reflective surfaces, relying instead on side rim lighting to sculpt bodily silhouettes. For the shots where I sat on the floor leaning against the glass, the ground was actually quite hard; to showcase the line of my legs and the texture of the Black stockings, I adjusted my seating position several times to let my legs extend naturally. When standing, hand placements needed an anchor point, making the handrail an ideal resting spot, while lifting one leg slightly backward broke up static stiffness.

To better reflect Shimoe Koharu's demeanor, the makeup emphasized under-eye blush paired with pink contacts to convey a slightly naive, coy state. The twintails of the wig were trimmed and styled carefully to keep the silhouette natural without feeling stiff. Regarding expressions, I didn't push for an overly sweet smile, but rather maintained a slightly aloof yet curious gaze that aligned cleanly with the dark-sweet styling.

Finding completely deserted backdrops at a convention is practically impossible, but this glass walkway was truly a delightful serendipity. For this series, I didn't rely on elaborate props, leaning instead on the interplay of light, shadow, and architectural lines to carry the frame. While the outfit looks airy and light, walking around in layered fabrics under the compression of a corset required some acclimation, especially keeping the skirt folds tidy whenever sitting down or standing up. Given the opportunity, I'd love to shoot this look outdoors in twilight, which would surely yield an entirely different atmospheric quality.
