Catching the tail end of summer to shoot a Swimsuit series, today's schedule was packed to the brim. I took on the ambitious challenge of shooting three complete looks in a single day, nearly stretching it to four. Collaborating with photographer Lanqiao desu went exceptionally smoothly; we synced on creative concepts, lighting direction, and scene staging early in the morning, which made execution remarkably efficient. Today's shoot featured two immensely popular characters from Azur Lane: the playful feline Cheshire (Cheshire Cosplay) and the majestic fox Shinano (Shinano cosplay). These two drastically contrasting styles—transitioning from a sun-drenched outdoor pool to a lush indoor courtyard—truly packed both the blazing heat and refreshing coolness of summer into our camera lenses.
The morning's main event was Cheshire's Swimsuit look. This vibrant blue bikini paired with denim cutoffs was accessorized with sunglasses, hair ribbons, a blue choker, and fishnet Stockings. We staged the shoot around the poolside and sun loungers, where fruit baskets and inflatable pool floats instantly amplified the summer resort aesthetic. The outdoor sunlight was dazzlingly fierce with harsh contrast; to preserve highlights while rescuing shadow details, I opened the aperture wide to f/1.8, kicked the shutter speed up to 1/2500s or even 1/8000s, and locked the ISO at 100. During brief intermissions, we huddled around the camera LCD, zooming in to verify that focus hadn't drifted, fine hair strands retained crisp definition, and color temperature remained precise. Seeing that cool, spirited cat-girl look pop on screen instantly melted away the fatigue of shooting under the scorching sun—that instant creative feedback was immensely gratifying.
In the afternoon, we transitioned to Shinano, whose aesthetic was a complete 180-degree departure from Cheshire. Adorned with a long silver-white wig, soft, fluffy animal ears, and a white lace camisole dress, her demeanor leaned toward tender, languid serenity. Cradling a yellow bird plushie, I posed on crisp white bedsheets and wooden chairs. The ambient light here was much softer; we fine-tuned our fill lights to render the skin texture translucent and dewy. One particular framing where I stood before a rustic wooden window—flanked by dried flowers and sunflower accents—complemented the scene gorgeously. Camera settings maintained the wide f/1.8 aperture, with shutter speed hovering around 1/800s and ISO at 100, ensuring tack-sharp clarity alongside creamy background separation. Juggling three wardrobe and hair changes in a day made transitions hectic, and wigs easily tangled during outfit changes. Thanks to Lanqiao's attentive help throughout—fixing hair, retouching makeup, and resetting props—we captured Shinano's ethereal, plush elegance to perfection.
Across the entire day of shooting, both Cheshire's summery vitality and Shinano's gentle grace were preserved beautifully through the lens. Although physically exhausted from continuous set relocations and quick costume changes, reviewing the playback and seeing composition, lighting, and mood hit the mark made every drop of sweat worthwhile. We caught the tail end of summer with certainty, and now comes the eager wait for the final post-processed cuts!
