[Tingyun cosplay] Benefactor, Forget Me Not: On-Site Snapshots of a Fox Girl

"Benefactor, you haven't forgotten about me, have you?" This line actually captures my exact feelings when doing this look, so I used it directly as the main theme for this share. As for these photos, let me just speak candidly about my true thoughts and preparation process.

The styling span of this costume is actually quite broad, retaining the charm of traditional Eastern attire while incorporating modern cuts and exaggerated anime elements. The red and white color-blocking design is extremely eye-catching, especially the tube top upper garment featuring gold and cyan water-ripple embroidery on the chest, making the visual focus crystal clear. The high-slit design on the lower half, combined with sheer ribbon streamers cascading from the waist, delivers a lively texture whether walking or sitting. To balance the overall visuals, a black faux fur shawl was added to the shoulders; this shawl has plush volume, and although it feels slightly heavy when worn, its presence creates a contrast against the slim waist and slender legs, better highlighting the character's silhouette in this Anime-style photography project.

The head accessories are the soul of the entire look. That huge pair of ears not only matched the costume palette with a brown-and-white gradient in material and color, but thanks to the coordination between hair strands and ear accessories, one can instantly tell this is a Fox girl character even from afar without looking at facial contours. The wig's bangs were also packed with detail—the side-swept bangs subtly covered one eye, while the other eye was emphasized with red blended eyeshadow, paired with light-colored contact lenses to make the gaze sharper during candid snapshots.

Since these are convention photos taken on-site at an anime convention, the environment was quite limited. The gray concrete floor, towering metal truss structures overhead, and blurred white folding chairs alongside photography gear in the background reflect the real face of the convention venue. Although the backdrop was slightly cluttered, this authentic atmosphere added a vibrant sense of reality to these Convention photos. During the shoot, considering the backdrop's cool tone and industrial style, this high-saturation red outfit created a striking color contrast in the frame, making the character stand out prominently.

During the shoot, the folding fan in hand served as a crucial visual focal point for the whole image. When I fully unfolded the fan, its large surface balanced the visual negative space around the chest while guiding viewer focus; when I held the fan near my cheek or against my chest, it infused stationary poses with elegant and mysterious charm. Switching between seated and standing postures tested physical coordination. Because the skirt was long with a high slit, extra care was needed when sitting down regarding calf placement—ensuring legs looked slender and natural without risking exposure. The black low-heeled shoes also played a significant role, toning down the bold presence of the long red dress and making the overall styling finish look more refined and graceful.

In truth, every time I cosplay a beloved character, it's never just about putting on a costume; from hair and makeup to body language, every detail requires conscious effort to match. Many shutter clicks in this set were frozen moments achieved after continuously adjusting angles with the photographer. For instance, the standing pose in Photo 3—feet slightly bent, standing sideways—not only allowed the high-slit skirt hem to fall naturally, but also perfectly displayed the plush shawl's texture and the fan-holding hand gesture. Maintaining that posture for candid snapshots was quite tiring, but seeing the playback reveal natural and steady light, expression, and posture made every effort feel thoroughly worth it. Though crowds passed back and forth at the venue, before the lens I entered a completely immersed state, focusing solely on this character from Honkai: Star Rail.

Many friends might think live convention lighting is hard to shoot in, but I actually love this slightly raw, on-site light feel. It isn't flawless like studio lighting, but it carries more 3D depth and truly tests a cosplayer's live performance. Special thanks to the photographer on site who captured the exact moments I wanted amidst the noisy environment.
