Deciding to shoot this Evernight cosplay from Honkai: Star Rail, the early preparation primarily focused on selecting the costume materials and recreating the complex accessories one by one. This black-and-white color-blocked uniform in the frame, supplemented by chains, crosses, and shoulder structural pieces, was developed with my tailor through repeated communication regarding pattern details to pursue the character's 3D look, striving to present a texture closer to the setting in front of the camera. Trimming the wig was also a huge project; this gradient pink hair color needed to have distinct layers while matching my face shape. After putting it on, I had to repeatedly adjust the angle of the bangs to ensure they wouldn't block my gaze, while preserving the character's signature messy yet exquisite feature.
The studio temperature on the day of the shoot was actually quite high, and wearing this layered outfit and patent leather boots was extremely stuffy and hot, but fortunately, the overall photoshoot results far exceeded expectations. This time, the photographer used a Sony A7M4 paired with two lenses: the 24-70mm and the 85mm f/1.4 GM. The 85mm end offered exceptionally smooth bokeh during close-up shots, softly blending the Gothic style black throne and the red background light source together. A red backlight was set up on site, which demanded high retention of shadow details; we constantly adjusted the light positions to ensure a natural transition of light and shadow on the face, thereby highlighting Evernight's lazy yet slightly mysterious gaze.
Regarding the props, the black umbrella with a red pattern printed on the inside was key to elevating the atmosphere. During the shoot, we also utilized specific angles to coordinate with post-processing to overlay the floating red transparent glowing special effects in the frame. To grasp the sense of the character, I tried to keep my action design restrained; whether standing while holding the umbrella or sitting sideways on the throne, I kept my body language relaxed and elegant to restore that aloof and solitary temperament from the game's setting.
The post-processing retouching approach wasn't overly exaggerated either, focusing heavily on preserving the authentic texture of the original skin tone while enhancing the visual contrast of the red and black elements. The real-life set built with skeletons, birdcages, and stairs under dramatic lighting beautifully supported the worldview atmosphere of this Anime-style photography project. My cooperation with the photographer has always been seamless; it took about a month from preparation to the final photos. Seeing the final images capture exactly how Evernight should look makes me feel that this hard creative work in my Cosplay daily life was completely worth it.
