[Vikutorika Cosplay] GOSICK Afternoon Reading Time by the Window - Image 2

Judging by the state presented in this set of photos, the lazy and calm atmosphere of Vikutorika from GOSICK is the core focus of this shoot. After sitting down in a windowside seat at the cafe, I quickly got into character. The light golden wig paired with the black-and-white ruffled vintage dress, along with this black bonnet with ribbons, is meant exactly to recreate Vikutorika's iconic look.

Choosing an afternoon cafe for this outdoor shoot, the ambient light was actually very soft. The view from the window featured lush green plants and slightly damp streets, and one could even see passersby walking past with transparent umbrellas. This diffuse reflection effect brought by natural light perfectly fits the European vintage, mysterious, and artistic tone of GOSICK. In terms of shooting props, besides the heavy volumes and pink-covered books prepared, that blue-and-white patterned small pipe also came in handy. Whether held directly in hand or placed aside as an accent, it brilliantly accentuates Vikutorika's unique temperament as an intellectual character.

For the styling, I paid special attention to recreating facial details. Through the definition of the eye makeup, I tried my best to align my expression with that clear yet slightly tsundere gaze. The black lace ruffled neckline and cuffs are the highlights of this costume; although they look somewhat complicated, they are actually very stable when worn, beautifully shaping the character's image where nobility and rationality coexist, much like in a library or a greenhouse.

During shooting, one usually encounters a practical issue, which is holding props and maintaining the naturalness of the pose. In the first photo, picking up the small pipe and looking up slightly at the camera actually requires balancing the weight between the fingers and the pipe while maintaining the overall posture. As for the second photo, leaning my cheek on my hand while looking down at the books on the table seems casual, but it requires micro-adjusting the shoulder angles to make the entire person look completely relaxed yet in a state of slight contemplation.

For this kind of styling that leans toward a vintage anime setting, if the lighting is too harsh, it will look unnatural, making an afternoon natural light session by the window highly appropriate. The overall color palette is dominated by large areas of green and the black-and-white of the costume, supplemented by a single red rose and wheat stalks accentuating the desk. Visually, it naturally renders the serene peace of Vikutorika flipping through ancient volumes alone in a library or study.

In terms of post-processing, excessive skin smoothing or heavy filters are not needed; maintaining the authenticity of the character's skin tone and environment is far more important. After all, the overall visual style of GOSICK is that of a European town with misty and cool atmospheres, and this low-saturation natural feel is highly unified with the character setting. Every single cosplay feels like a cross-dimensional communication with the character; preparing the wig, costume, and props with heart, and then fully immersing oneself into the given background and context, is the most fundamental step to recreating a character. During the shoot, occasional unexpected environmental elements joining in, like a passerby walking with an umbrella in the background, actually add a sense of real-life presence, making the photos look less rigid.

Shooting this kind of genre, besides external props and scene choices, mastering the gaze and micro-expressions is also key. Vikutorika is not a lively, extroverted character; she prefers to respond to her surroundings with calmness and observation. Therefore, what we tried our best to capture in the photos are her composed moments of being focused on something. The black-and-white color scheme of the entire outfit is highly classic, standing out prominently against the green-filled background without looking bulky. Stabilizing a seated pose slightly in an indoor environment, paired with open books, successfully constructs a relatively complete narrative space.
