This time cosplaying Ch'en the Dawnstreak, the most painstaking part was restoring the texture of the props and clothing. To present that sharp feeling of a seasoned veteran, the black sleeveless top and the multi-layered belts at the waist were intentionally crafted with material contrasts, paired with white fingerless gloves and arm bracers, keeping the overall color palette restricted to black, red, and blue-purple for a visually purer look. The Chi Xiao sword in hand was of utmost importance; the red blade needed to present a special mechanical and metallic luster under lighting. Before the shoot, we repeatedly adjusted the lighting angles, and in post-processing, added glowing red energy special effects swirling around the body for Figure 1, achieving that oppressive vibe carrying a blood-red aura, ready to draw the blade and strike at any moment.
In terms of poses, because Ch'en-sir herself possesses a very solid combat foundation, I tried my best to avoid limp, soft staged posing, pursuing the tensing of every single muscle. The semi-squatting stride with a two-handed sword grip in Figure 2 actually tests core strength immensely. The over-the-knee long leather boots, combined with the thigh strap details, stretch out exceptionally attractive lines under the squatting posture, though they also severely restrict movement. To capture the instantaneous leg muscle exertion and the sharpness of the gaze, I held that posture for quite a while, with my thigh muscles trembling, but seeing the ready-to-launch tension in the final photos made all the sweat worthwhile. The panoramic composition of Figure 1, paired with scattered swords on the ground, aimed to express a chilling, solemn atmosphere right after an intense battle and battlefield cleanup.
The wig styling was also no small challenge. The blue-purple long hair needed to capture a flowing grace fluttering in the wind without looking messy, consuming a substantial amount of hair gel and styling spray. Makeup deliberately emphasized the sharpness of the eye makeup, and the pair of red horns on top of the head took careful effort to secure, ensuring they wouldn't shift during intense movements and flying hair strands.
The shooting location was chosen as an indoor venue featuring grid ceilings and thick circular pillars. This kind of modern industrial cool-toned background, combined with the on-site lighting we prepared in advance, happened to form a cold-warm contrast with the red special effects and weapons, making the character stand out vividly in the frame. Cosplaying such an explosive combat-tier character indeed consumes significant physical energy, but being able to showcase the character's toughness and aura before the lens is the ultimate sense of accomplishment.
Regarding facial expression and demeanor, I kept recalling Ch'en-sir's aloofness and decisiveness in the storyline. She isn't someone who easily displays emotions; all her power is internalized within her swordsmanship. Therefore, during the shoot, I tried my best to keep my gaze focused yet aggressive, with the chin slightly tucked, creating an oppressive feeling of looking down on enemies. From every single wrinkle in the costume to the gripping posture of the weapon, I hope friends who love this character can feel that dignity and utter sincerity belonging to her. Although the entire shooting process was tiring, polishing repeatedly with the team for a single perfect shot is in itself a process full of joy.
