[Arknights Amiya Cosplay] Demon King Amiya Under High-Key Studio Photography

Playing through the Sarkaz roguelike mode has been the gameplay experience I've been most invested in recently. The emotional resonance of the story and lore moved me even more deeply than the main storyline. That's precisely why, when I saw the design sketches for Demon King Amiya, I was desperate to bring her to life. This look is completely different from the previous bunny styles I've shot. The pure white dress with torn edges, paired with sharp, deep black armor, creates an atmosphere that feels both sacred and edged with grim tension.

Preparing the costume and props was actually more challenging than expected. The black headpiece composed of spikes and geometric rings needed a defined, heavy texture while remaining secure when worn. The large wings on my back were quite massive, requiring careful positioning and space management during the studio photoshoot. However, seeing the contrast between the white background and black elements in the final photos made all the preparation worthwhile. The white cross-section visible through the cracked black eggshell prop perfectly resonated with the pure white of the skirt and wings—a subtle touch that brought great depth to the character recreation. The black geometric markings on the arms and legs also heightened her iconic features, adding stylish visual accents.

To embody the ethereal and slightly fractured atmosphere of the lore, I specifically chose high-key studio photography with bright overall lighting. Softening heavy shadows allowed the character's outline and wing textures to appear exceptionally crisp and dimensional against the white backdrop. The high-key lighting approach aimed to use pure light to highlight contrasting fabric textures and impart a subtle sense of weightlessness. Set against spacious white Roman pillars and stairs, along with the grand wings, the composition feels light and expansive, perfectly matching her divine presence. However, such intense bright studio lighting demands flawless makeup—strong light easily washes out features, so a clean base makeup and meticulous facial contouring were essential to avoid a flat look.

Portraying Amiya in this form felt subtly different from usual. While she typically embodies the steadfastness of a guardian, this design displays an inner power forged through trials. Her rabbit ears and subtle blue highlights preserve a hint of youthful grace amid the solemn black crown elements, forming a captivating contrast. Immersing myself in recreating this form in the studio allowed me to understand the character on a deeper level. Seeing the makeup and costume details come together before the camera gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. Every time I looked down at the black patterns drawn on my arms, I was instantly pulled back into her mindset.

Before the shoot, I reflected repeatedly on how to handle her expressions. Because this persona contrasts sharply with her everyday image, I had to fine-tune not only the makeup but also my gaze toward the lens. Paired with teal contact lenses, I aimed to convey her inner emotional depth rather than just striking poses. Although bearing the heavy headpiece and wings tested my physical stamina, the moment I stepped into the shoot, sheer immersion made me forget all fatigue.

To me, fictional characters don't just stay on screens. Capturing their physicalized existence through cosplay photography lets me relive those initial emotions every time I look back. The Sarkaz storyline brought me a whole new layer of resonance with Amiya—whether it's her sense of destiny or her resistance, both are profoundly moving. The pace of this shoot was smooth, with my partner and photographer managing the scene masterfully, allowing me to better capture her resolve alongside her gentle vulnerability. Rather than merely recreating a design, the whole photoshoot felt like interpreting that powerful storyline in my own personal way.
