[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Blue Archive Aquarium Collaboration: Ethereal Blue Dream Moments in a White Dress

This set of white dress Hoshino photos was taken during a recent visit to the aquarium with photographer Muxi as part of a collaboration project. I had always wanted to do a casual, everyday outfit for Takanashi Hoshino, and the cool blue lighting at the aquarium provided the perfect setting.

For the costume and wig, I specifically chose this pure white off-the-shoulder ruffle dress. Compared to the structured feel of her combat uniform, a white dress exudes a more relaxed and casual vibe, and the layered hem drapes beautifully when seated. For the wig, I selected long, straight, light pink hair with slightly thinned ends. Since the backlight in the aquarium was intense, thinning the ends allowed light to pass through naturally instead of creating a heavy, solid block. The halo was custom-made with thin luminous tubing, which, paired with the glowing orb in my hand, added a touch of warmth to the deep blue environment. The contrast between warm and cool, light and shadow, gave the final shots rich depth.

During the shoot, the circular viewing window served as a natural framing device. Sitting on the narrow sill wasn't particularly comfortable, as keeping balance required bracing with my knees. However, I tried to stay relaxed, naturally extending my lower leg forward to elongate the silhouette while capturing the character's laid-back demeanor. Muxi stood opposite with the camera, constantly guiding my posture to keep me centered in the circle. Because the jellyfish moved slowly, we had to wait quietly for tens of seconds before each shot until a jellyfish drifted into the ideal spot in the background.

Lighting design was another crucial element. The aquarium's overhead lighting was weak, and the blue glow from the water tended to cast a pale greenish tint on the face. To counter this, Muxi cleverly used a handheld warm-white light sphere as the key light, carefully controlling the distance so the illumination only touched my face and upper body without disrupting the mysterious, ambient blue. This setup kept facial features crisp and skin tones natural while preserving the organic bioluminescence of the jellyfish.

I chose this look because the contrast between the deep blue waters, pink hair, and white dress carried a strong sense of narrative. A collaboration photoshoot relies heavily on chemistry with the photographer. Muxi is exceptionally skilled at capturing candid expressions, so instead of holding stiff, forced poses, I simply relaxed and smiled toward her lens. These natural snapshots often hold far more vitality than rigid poses.

During post-processing, I asked to preserve the dark framing around the window so the whole image would resemble a memory capsule. The dark edges enclose the blue water and subject like a cinematic close-up. This composition works wonderfully as a standalone photo or profile picture. Many friends noted that the underwater breathing sensation perfectly captured the mood we aimed to evoke.

In the cosplay community, shoots often focus on combat gear or dynamic visual effects, but occasionally trying a quiet, atmospheric portrait allows a character's beauty to shine in a different light. Although balancing on the window sill for so long was tiring, seeing the soft outlines of the pink hair and dress hem traced by the jellyfish glow made it entirely worthwhile. Dressing up and briefly becoming Hoshino inside this crystal-like aquarium was truly a special experience.
