[Eyjafjalla the Hvít Aska cosplay] Arknights Picnic Before the Journey on Jeju Island

Bringing this refreshing and lively blue-and-white outfit to the coastline of Jeju Island set a very specific atmospheric tone for this cosplay travel photoshoot themed around a picnic before a journey. Taking the character on location for outdoor cosplay in real environments often brings many unexpected surprises compared to studio shoots, and capturing that sense of depth under natural light was precisely what I wanted to record.

In terms of costume details, this off-the-shoulder blue-and-white dress paired with white lantern sleeves creates a light, flowing movement in the outdoor sea breeze. The white lace choker and bow at the neckline, combined with the deep blue corset belt cinch, coordinate the proportions of the upper and lower body beautifully. Paired with white stockings, the visual balance naturally shifts toward the upper body, making the overall look airy yet instantly recognizable. As for accessories, the plush sheep horn headpiece and light blue hair ribbon serve as the finishing touches; in the sunlight, the edges of the plush material cast a subtle glow, giving the character a gentle and vivid look.

For makeup and hair, I chose a clear and natural base, applying a light pinkish-orange smudge under the eyes and on the cheeks, paired with a gradient wig shifting from light brown to pink at the tips. To withstand the strong gusts of wind along the Jeju coast, the wig underwent rigorous physical styling before the shoot. In particular, the bangs and side braided sections were reinforced with hair wax and hairspray to prevent messiness caused by unpredictable sea winds.

Choosing the right location was crucial for this shoot. Jeju Island's unique black basalt rocks, clear blue sea, and white sand beaches created an ideal color harmony and contrast with the character's blue-and-white outfit. In terms of composition, I tried both half-body looking-back close-ups and panoramic shots integrating the sea and sky. For the looking-back shot, I gently adjusted the lace trim on my collar as sunlight poured in from above, outlining the graceful curves of my shoulders and collarbone. Combined with the dark wooden railing behind me and the depth of the blue ocean in the distance, it created a rich visual layering.

Outdoor cosplay photography is certainly no easy task, especially under a scorching sun. The direct sunlight outdoors was intense, and reflectors couldn't cover every angle, requiring constant position adjustments to find the optimal key light on my face under natural lighting. At the same time, we had to remain mindful of the rising tides near the rocky reef behind us. Although the shooting process was physically demanding and the sea breeze blew the wig a bit messy, seeing how the effortless chill vibe blended seamlessly with the character's atmosphere in the viewfinder made all the hard work entirely worth it.

To me, traveling with a character and documenting them within authentic natural scenery is far more compelling than deliberately created studio setups. This Jeju Island travel photography experience was more than just visiting a tourist spot; it was an in-depth attempt to capture the character's unique demeanor amid changing outdoor light and shadow. Every time the wind lifted the skirt, every sound of waves crashing against the shore became woven into each shutter press. I hope this set conveys that attitude of longing for freedom and nature, leaving behind a textured, memorable record of this pre-journey picnic.
