[Tokai Teio cosplay] Casual Convention Photos from an Outdoor Shoot

Sorting through photos after returning from the convention, the full-body shot in photo 3 really showcases the overall effect. This outfit for Tokai Teio from Umamusume: Pretty Derby was prepared in advance: a blue-and-white checkered ruffled camisole top with a large blue bow at the chest. Since it was quite hot, I paired it with denim shorts and platform white sandals for a refreshing look. The wig is reddish-brown with subtle pink highlights, styled into two small buns at the top pinned with pink ribbons. Wearing light blue contact lenses and tilting my head slightly made the expression look very natural. The shoot took place on an outdoor lawn as part of our Outdoor photography; the photographer brought a large octagonal softbox to create even, flat lighting, which minimized harsh facial shadows and suited this energetic character perfectly. I adjusted my stance to stand sideways with one leg slightly forward to make the legs look longer. Resting my right hand on my left arm with my left hand behind my head was effortless and, paired with my gaze, created a slightly tsundere or nonchalant vibe. Finding clean angles was tough for the photographer due to the dense convention crowds, but blurring out other cosplayers and passersby in the background brought the subject into sharp focus. For the first two half-body close-ups, the photographer mainly focused on facial expressions and catchlights. Photo 3's full-body shot is actually one of my personal favorites, as the leg-baring pose felt very natural. When cosplaying, I always analyze the character's personality; for an energetic, cute type, slightly exaggerated gestures can feel dynamic, yet a bit of restraint is still needed. Because Tokai Teio naturally has that lively yet slightly spirited personality, I deliberately held back during shooting without using overly exaggerated smiles. People sometimes joke about breaking into the 'Hachimi' song because that meme is so catchy, and cosplaying this character inevitably brings it to mind. The entire convention shoot lasted nearly an hour; the small hair clips stayed secure, and the fabric folds were arranged satisfactorily. Post-processing didn't involve complex special effects, focusing mainly on skin retouching and cleaning up distracting figures in the background. Regarding camera angles: low angles work better for full-body shots to accentuate leg lines and overall proportions, while high angles suit close-up portraits. The photographer's softbox was a tremendous help in preventing awkward facial shadows, saving a lot of hassle in post-production. I hope to encounter such pleasant outdoor lighting again in future Cosplay photography sessions.
