This classic school uniform styling of Kasugano Sora has been a long-time wish of mine, and this time I finally got to fulfill it taking advantage of the CICF anime convention. To restore this outfit, I put a lot of effort into the clothing details in the early stage. The off-white long-sleeved shirt needed to be specially ironed to create a fluffy feel, the gray-brown plaid lapel spliced at the collar shouldn't be crooked, and the lantern-sleeve wrinkles at the cuffs also needed to be puffed out to look good. The plaid pleated skirt on the lower body could not be neglected either; to keep the sharpness of the skirt hem for a whole day, I used a flat iron to slightly set each pleat before going out.
Grooming the wig was also a key point. The light golden twintails plus blunt bangs can easily look flat or frizzy. I used hair wax to slightly grab a bit of airy feel for the sideburns and hair ends, and fixed the black bow hair accessory on top of the head securely, so it wouldn't easily deform even after walking around the convention for a day. To match the overall vintage campus atmosphere, I specially carried a dark brown leather briefcase prop, and the golden shield badge on the bag cover echoed just right with the embroidery on the shirt pocket.
The shooting location was chosen in front of a dense green plant wall outside the venue. Although outdoor natural light looks good, the convention is crowded and noisy, and finding a clean background is not easy. Fortunately, the photographer was experienced, using the green of the bushes as a background color to well highlight the light-colored clothing. In terms of sitting postures, I tried the action of making a triangle with both hands in front of my chest, which can make the shirt lines on the upper body more obvious while naturally displaying the wrinkles of the skirt hem. The second panoramic picture adjusted the camera position, completely incorporating the lines of the black semi-transparent tights and the briefcase next to it into the composition, making it visually more balanced.
The biggest lesson learned from shooting outdoors is that protection work must be in place. The convention venue is crowded and complicated, and wearing black semi-transparent tights can easily cause them to be snagged by bags or chairs nearby if not careful. I am used to keeping a bottle of clear nail polish in my bag; once a small snag is found, apply it immediately to prevent spreading. Because the skirt is relatively short, when sitting on the ground, I also had to constantly pay attention to arranging the skirt hem to avoid pressing out ugly dead creases. Wearing a long twintail wig for a long time will also cause soreness in the neck and shoulders, so every shooting break I would take off the wig to let my head relax a bit and spray a little mint spray to refresh myself.
The effect of the convention photos from this CICF anime convention is very surprising. The first close-up shot captured the texture and gaze of the wig very well, while the second panoramic shot fully displayed the vintage charm of this outfit. The overall styling does not have too many complicated decorations; relying on the cut of basic styles and color matching, it presents a quiet yet youthful atmosphere. Being able to successfully shoot this set of pictures, I am really grateful to the photographer for running around looking for angles, and also to the partner who helped tidy up the clothes and backpack that day. The joy of the convention is often hidden in these processes of fussing over details; next, I plan to wash this set of clothes and put them into the wardrobe, and start planning the styling for the next character.
