[Sunohara Shun cosplay] Blue Archive: The Sniper in the Courtyard

This time I'm bringing you a Sunohara Shun cosplay set from Blue Archive. The outfit design hooked me at first sight—a navy blue Chinese-style stand-collar short-sleeved top with carefully tailored white piping along the edges for a crisp, sharp aesthetic. The striking green bow at the collar serves as a vibrant visual focus that balances the dark tones of the garment. On the lower half, a black short skirt paired with under-shorts offers a very flattering silhouette. I made sure to complete the look with a White thigh-highs outfit and black platform leather shoes, accented by matching green bow buckles on the shoe straps—a detail I absolutely adore, as it ties the navy, white, black, and green colors into a clean, unified palette. For headwear, beyond the custom black plush cat ears, the blue-and-white ribbon on the side and small white flower hairpins perfectly materialize her aura that balances cuteness with cool detachment.

For the shoot location, I put a lot of thought into venue selection, ultimately choosing a courtyard with traditional wooden architecture. Moss growing through stone pavement cracks and textured wooden benches under natural light created a tranquil yet modern visual space alongside lush greenery—a backdrop that formed a striking contrast with my prop. The prop featured a sleek black-and-white heavy sniper rifle with a sci-fi silhouette; holding its heavy, solid frame instantly elevated the realism of the styling.

When it came to poses, the photographer and I experimented with a few variations. The single-leg standing pose in the first photo was quite tricky, requiring strict balance control and body line tension. However, this slight tilt highlighted the overall outfit outline, especially the light, breezy feel of the White thigh-highs outfit under the short skirt. Resting the prop rifle across my waist integrated naturally into the dynamic pose without overpowering the frame. The second photo focused on a close-up seated on the wooden bench, where a static posture better captured her facial expression and gaze. Since Sunohara Shun has a sniper background in the lore, I tried to convey a quiet, focused intensity in my eyes; holding the prop rifle firmly vertically before me added an undercurrent of readiness despite the relaxed sitting posture.

I personally favor this low-saturation, crisp, and clean lighting tone. The natural light gives the whole set a translucent finish without feeling overly edited. Throughout the shoot, I kept reflecting on how to recreate that everyday mystery of the character without looking forced. The outfit actually features subtle design details, such as long ribbons at the waist that flutter gracefully in a breeze; unfortunately, we couldn't catch a wind-blown moment on camera, but that leaves something to look forward to for next time! Overall, this shoot struck the right balance between her sharp edge and dainty charm, capturing a subtle Tsundere cool factor that matches her canonical charm. The blooper reel was full of hilarious wobbles while standing on one leg, which made the whole shoot super relaxed behind the scenes.

For makeup, I deliberately opted for a matte texture paired with clear, translucent eye makeup to recreate the faint cold elegance from the original art. Her wig was styled into a high ponytail with naturally thinned bangs so it wouldn't look too stiff. When inspecting the prop rifle, I noticed its grip had a realistic faux-leather texture, which looked fantastic on camera. Walking through the courtyard in this outfit gave me a surreal feeling—partly a dimensional overlap, and partly a feeling that this quiet environment suited her Campus style character perfectly. For this outdoor shoot, I wanted to convey her low-key yet dependable nature. Although the prop rifle was heavy, it provided great support while posing, making my posture look taller and more confident. I deeply treasure every moment spent posing in costume because each shoot lets me understand a character from new angles. Sunohara Shun gave me an amazing photoshoot experience!
