[Sunohara Shun cosplay] Calmness and Cuteness in Blue Archive

Taking advantage of the fine weather over the past few days, I completed this Shun (Small) cosplay photoshoot. Blended with the real setting of a traditional Chinese garden, it felt wonderfully in tune with the character's aura. When preparing this look, what satisfied me most in the costume was the green bow at the chest and the translucent blue-green butterfly headpiece. The wig came with cat ears pre-shaped, saving a lot of hassle in styling. To bring the overall feel closer to the character's essence—looking petite yet remarkably reliable—I chose a black modified short qipao top paired with white over-the-knee socks for a classic white tights cosplay.

The sunlight was quite strong on the day of the shoot, with tree shadows casting dappled light across my body. In the first photo, I sat on a bench in a relaxed pose, placing both hands near the headpiece for a playful touch. For the second shot, I switched to a gun-holding stance, turning slightly to rest the gunstock beside my leg. Although this prop gun looks very sci-fi, holding it for long periods carried noticeable weight. To accentuate the character's slender silhouette, I paid special attention to extending my leg lines in both standing and sitting poses. White stockings can easily catch harsh light in direct sunshine, where overexposure might blow out subtle details, so we carefully adjusted the aperture during shooting to preserve the fabric's woven texture. Blush was applied beneath the eyes to make the gaze look brighter and clearer.

The traditional red pillars, wooden benches, stone pavers, and surrounding greenery endowed these photos with a serene quality. We didn't use overly complicated lighting setups, relying primarily on the direction of natural light in this outdoor photography to enhance the subject's three-dimensional presence. I remember shooting quite a few modern urban themes before, but a garden setting infused with classical elements actually accentuates the character's lively agility. Even while portraying an ostensibly youthful character, handling a firearm requires a certain sense of disciplined strength in the gaze and movements. The photographer's timing was spot-on, avoiding any stiffness of posed shots. In post-processing, I refrained from exaggerated editing, mainly fine-tuning the overall clarity and freshness so the black-and-white contrast appeared crisper. The white over-the-knee socks truly illuminated the frame, creating a striking color clash with the black cropped top.

Many details were prepared on set, such as the red cord bracelet on my wrist and subtle jacquard patterns along the collar. Even if the camera lens might not catch every single one, as a cosplayer, I believe getting costume and accessory fidelity right is an essential foundation. Outdoor location shoots always come with unexpected surprises—like fallen leaves or passing pedestrians—which actually adds a wonderful touch of spontaneity. I prefer these less rigidly staged environments where a more genuine interaction can flourish between the cosplayer and the lens.

Let's talk about the creative direction of this shoot. Shun (Small) is a unique character in Blue Archive lore; though her body shrank, her focused, composed demeanor never wavered. Therefore, in posing design, I intentionally incorporated static poses holding the gun, striving to convey the character's mature composure through a calm gaze. To add depth to the composition, I chose spots where sunlight filtered through leaf gaps, letting dappled light and shadows fall across the outfit and stockings to enrich the scene's storytelling. For makeup, I applied a translucent base paired with natural lip color, aiming for a sheer finish faithful to the original character design. The cat ears and blue-green butterfly headpiece were integrated into a single hairpiece fixed with hot glue, ensuring it wouldn't shift when turning my head while maintaining aesthetic appeal. While the black cropped top appears sleek and simple, we added white line trims at the collar and cuffs to match the character design and echo the white over-the-knee socks. In gripping the prop gun, I paid close attention to finger placement, ensuring the stance looked professional yet natural. I hope this Sunohara Shun cosplay photo set allows everyone to see a tiny gunner brimming with girlish charm and capable composure.
