Today I'm sharing the finished photos of my Ichinose Asuna shoot from a little while ago. The theme was set around a sci-fi maid concept, and from wardrobe and props to location scouting, extensive thought went into faithful recreation.
For the costume, I chose the classic black, white, and blue palette. The top features black puff sleeves accented with white ruffled lace at the cuffs and white numerical prints reminiscent of '70'. White fabric across the chest pairs with a blue ribbon bow, complemented by waist cutouts that visually elongate body proportions. The skirt is a black pleated design trimmed with blue-and-white stripes, layered under a crisp white apron tied at the waist for dimensional contrast. For this look, I styled a light blonde straight wig with subtle flaxen tones, featuring blunt-cut bangs and face-framing tendrils. The maid headband and high-tech earphone headset were the soul of the styling, which, combined with the blue halo effect in post-production, summoned a vivid sci-fi presence.
As for props, the blue-and-white sci-fi firearm held in hand was custom-built and carried considerable heft. Holding it with one hand or aiming it with both over long takes made my arms ache, but its imposing presence offered a striking contrast against the maid uniform. On the lower half, I paired white over-the-knee socks with black high-heeled Mary Janes, accented with a black garter strap along the thigh. Under cool lighting, the White stockings reflected specular highlights beautifully, though highlights risked blowing out easily, requiring repeated exposure adjustments from the photographer.
The studio setting exuded futuristic ambiance with cool-white neon tubes, clear acrylic pillars, and an illuminated circular platform. To complement this environment, lighting was arranged primarily around cool-white illumination supported by subtle blue ambient accents. This lighting setup heavily scrutinizes skin texture, so I kept the foundation ultra-light, blending cool pinkish-purple tones for the eyeshadow alongside blue contact lenses for a crystalline, clean finish.
Posing choreography drew directly from her personality, exploring diverse expressions: sitting along the platform edge and glancing back over the shoulder to flatter the waist and leg curves, or facing forward gripping the prop firearm for commanding power. There were also playful captures—forming finger hearts, resting my chin on my hand, and a candid snapshot sticking out my tongue. To flatter the White stockings and leg lines, the photographer took full advantage of platform elevations and perspective, capturing full-body angles with compositions I adore.
The entire shoot lasted over four hours, cycling through styling checks and minute posing adjustments. Post-production primarily reinforced the crisp contrast between cool blues and whites, clearing stray color casts for an immaculate aesthetic. Every cosplay shoot feels like stepping into another life; from costume preparation to final delivery, the demanding journey is instantly vindicated when seeing frames you love.
