[Hatsune Miku Cosplay] IDO Anime Expo Day 1 Convention Photos

2026.07.18 54th IDO Anime Expo Day 1 photo recap! This was my first time seeing so many creators and photographers at IDO in Yizhuang. Mobile reception inside the venue was practically non-existent, so I had to abandon my original plan of tethering and transferring photos on the spot, choosing instead to handle post-processing back at home. Today I carried the Fujifilm X-H2 paired with the XF 16-55mm lens, weaving through crowded halls to photograph four distinct looks: Hatsune Miku, Aemeath, Rikka, and Gokou Ruri, shooting continuously from morning until closing time.

Hatsune Miku's nurse outfit was the first set of the day. A pink dress trimmed with white lace ruffles, crowned with a red-cross nurse cap, and holding that massive oversized syringe prop made for an instant eye-catcher. To accentuate the contours of the pink over-the-knee stockings and white high heels, I specifically asked the photographer to drop to a lower angle, leveraging the wide-angle perspective of the 16-55mm lens to visually elongate my leg lines while keeping the white backdrop clean and tidy. The film simulation straight-out-of-camera colors from the Fujifilm X-H2 were wonderfully rich, especially in the pink and red highlight areas, capturing crisp textures with barely any heavy color grading needed.

Next came Aemeath's sci-fi design: long pink hair paired with a white bodysuit lined with golden accents, where the blue gem decorations on the chest and waist caught vivid reflections under the hall lights. The cape features a smooth gradient transitioning from blue to pink; while shooting, we constantly micro-adjusted its angle to let it trail gracefully as if caught in a breeze without obscuring the silhouette of my body. I had the photographer use the mid-to-telephoto range of the 16-55mm to compress the spatial depth, blowing out the chaotic background so attention remained firmly focused on the metallic wardrobe details. By this time, foot traffic had peaked, and any large motion risked bumping into adjacent gear, meaning almost every frame had to be composed within tight spaces.

In the afternoon, we moved on to Rikka's bunny girl styling. Deep blue short hair paired with lop-eared rabbit ears, a purple bodysuit, and a black mini skirt made for intense visual impact. Sitting on a chair with my legs crossed, I let the lines of the purple thigh-high stockings and black high heels take center stage, alternating between holding a prop pistol and striking playful poses. To capture skin radiance and the fine texture of the Stockings, I specifically asked the lighting technician to place a side-frontal fill light angled across my legs and face. My favorite composition from this set is the shot seated atop the black cylindrical pedestal—the frame felt tight, impactful, and perfectly grounded.

The final look was Gokou Ruri's white sundress with cat ears. Straight long purple hair paired with cat-ear headwear featuring white inner fur, matched with a white camisole sundress with lace hems, projecting a casual and gentle everyday charm. Cradling a straw sunhat with a black mini crossbody bag adorned with a purple bow slung across my shoulder, I sat comfortably on a wooden chair. This session was much more relaxed, with lighting designed to emulate soft natural daylight, lowering the contrast slightly for a tender finish.

It was already late evening by the time I returned home and imported the raw files onto the computer. Because cellular signal was virtually zero inside the venue, my initial plan to sync files instantly completely fell through, leaving me to bring the memory cards home for careful adjustments. Post-processing focused primarily on fine-tuning exposure and skin tones; the Fujifilm X-H2 demonstrated solid, dependable white balance under complex multi-source lighting, faithfully reproducing pinks and purples. To preserve the tactile grain of the garments, I steered clear of excessive skin-smoothing to retain a crisp, authentic texture.
