The retouching for our Firefly ACG Expo Convention photos is finally wrapped! This Derivative work concept for Hatsune Miku cosplay in a slate-blue vintage dress was in development for weeks. Exploring a Derivative work means weaving in personal aesthetic preferences, so please pardon minor OOC variances from her classic VOCALOID canon. The palette centers on muted slate blue in jacquard fabric with subtle woven textures, contrasted crisply by a black satin chest bow and an attached choker that elongates the neck.
The mint-green twin tails were reshaped with layered bangs and defined face-framing strands held by pomade for dynamic motion. Vivid blue contact lenses paired with diffused reddish-brown eye shadow, full lashes, and a custom red square motif painted along the arm brought the face to life. While the massive boned hat made high and low angles tricky amid crowded expo aisles, gestures like resting an index finger on the chin or framing the cheek guided focus back to facial expressions. Balancing core iconic cues—mint-green hair and bright blue eyes—with an entirely new wardrobe concept made this Firefly ACG Expo photoshoot a profoundly rewarding creative challenge.
