I've finally sorted through my photos from the CICF Guangzhou Anime Convention. This glossy dark-style outfit is something I've been wanting to try for a long time. Since I usually cosplay more traditional characters, suddenly switching to a slightly alluring, edgy aesthetic felt a bit unfamiliar when I first tried it on. The fabric is similar to PU faux leather; while its glossy sheen looked stunning under the camera lights, it was genuinely stuffy to wear. Because of the form-fitting cut, I had to keep my core engaged and stomach tucked in the entire time to prevent wrinkles across the midriff—honestly more exhausting than a core workout. The wig was exceptionally long; to give it defined layers without tangling, I spent hours prepping it in the hotel room. I also accessorized with black animal ears and a collar choker to add a playful yet dangerous edge.
Once at the venue, we scouted a relatively open space to begin shooting. Pairing this outfit with Black stockings truly accentuated my leg lines, so the photographer suggested experimenting with kneeling and side-reclining poses to highlight the silhouette. However, balancing on my knees in high heels over a plush rug was tricky; even with light padding, it put pressure on my knees, so every shot you see here was the result of holding back knee soreness while managing my facial expressions. The surrounding attendees and other photographers were wonderfully welcoming, and several people came over to ask for photos. That shared passion uniting everyone in the same space always touches my heart.
Honestly, attending conventions always demands immense stamina. Wearing non-breathable vinyl paired with a heavy wig for hours almost melted my makeup. But seeing the final edits made all the effort feel completely worthwhile. In post-production, deepening the shadows brought out that cold, enigmatic ambiance instantly. I particularly adore the waist cutout design and the neckline accents; matched with a slightly aloof expression, the result exceeded my expectations. Convention hall lighting is notoriously messy, so finding such a clean backdrop was no small feat, largely thanks to the photographer's patient guidance.
This shoot felt like a mini-breakthrough for me, gradually realizing that I can handle a wider spectrum of styles—whether cute, dashing, or subtly alluring. Moving forward, I'll continue refining new makeup looks and visual themes, and I hope to attend different conventions to soak in various atmospheres. I'm thoroughly satisfied with this set, and it serves as a rewarding culmination of my preparation over this period.
