I personally love how this Touhou Project Rumia cosplay set turned out, so while organizing the photos, I wanted to share some thoughts and behind-the-scenes details. Pre-production focused heavily on garment texture: I selected a black, red, and white Gothic Lolita dress packed with intricate details—a white lace crop overshirt paired with tiered lace trimming on the black skirt. The deep red velvet bow at the neckline added rich texture, which, combined with red contact lenses and blonde hair, popped brilliantly against the dark backdrop.

For props, we prepared substantial heavy iron chains on set. Hanging them was genuinely heavy, and moving them took considerable effort, but when the light cut through the chains, the visual impact of being bound and confined was truly striking. The non-standard camera angles in these shots came from our deliberate creative choice to use off-axis perspectives rather than conventional eye-level frontal framing. The photographer utilized diverse angles, including high-angle looking down and low-angle looking up; this not only effectively blurred foreground chains to craft depth of field, but also maximized costume details and leg lines. Paired with my Black stockings, black platform shoes, and white lace leg warmers, these off-axis angles elongated body proportions with far greater expressive power than standard eye-level shots.

Expression control was also a crucial component. To make my gaze look hollow and vacant yet elusive, I unfocused my vision during shooting, complementing the slightly pale foundation to faithfully capture the mysterious essence of the Youkai of the Dusk wandering through the dark night. The blonde wig was trimmed to contour the face. To maintain that sharp, piercing gaze, the photographer guided my eye direction while I held the expression. This red-and-black Dark style outfit showed stunning texture under the contrast of candlelight and spotlights—especially the subtle star-like jacquard patterns on the black skirt, which tested the camera's exposure metering. Shooting from these creative off-axis angles, the final atmospheric depth turned out even more satisfying than I anticipated.
