The Black Butler duo photoshoot we planned for so long has finally come to life at Record of the Western Ocean. From initial conceptualization to the actual shoot took quite some time, primarily because we sought a real-life location that embodied authentic aristocratic elegance while accommodating dynamic, complex posing for a duo. The European furnishings here were truly a perfect fit—intricate carved armchairs, a grand piano, and vintage lamps saved us the hassle of building sets from scratch, lending the raw shots incredible depth right out of the camera.
For this shoot, I portrayed Ciel, while @Mianmian played Sebastian. Extensive effort went into the wardrobe nuances: my coat's generous white lace, arm sleeves, monochrome striped corset sash, and lace-up knee-high black boots took considerable time just to put on. The moment the eyepatch and mini top hat were secured, the young master's signature blend of haughtiness and brooding melancholy instantly locked in. To stay true to the canon's aura, we coordinated closely with our photographer regarding choreography—not merely capturing the soul-binding contract between master and servant, but showcasing visual tension and individual character traits across our interactions.
The shooting process proved to be an intense trial of both stamina and patience. Despite indoor air conditioning, wearing multiple heavy layers alongside tall boots while executing one-knee drops, brandishing a rapier, and holding poses like back-to-back embraces or chin tilts was sweltering. The kneeling sword pose in image 9 was especially demanding: to elongate the leg lines and showcase the sharp geometric angles of the boot straps, we repeatedly recalibrated camera angles and body weight distribution, leaving my legs trembling by the end. Yet seeing how the interplay of light and shadow produced such sharp, alluring frames made every drop of sweat worthwhile.
Sebastian's poses brandishing silverware were equally captivating; capturing that balance of unflappable elegance and lurking menace required exacting control over subtle expressions and finger placements. The ambient lighting on set was superb: warm golden rim-light streaming in sculpted an oil-painting-like vintage dark aesthetic with minimal post-processing needed. Though the heat was exhausting, everyone remained dedicated to refining each frame, resulting in a cohesive narrative sequence we are all genuinely proud of.
