A night photoshoot by the riverside—finally compiled this official set for Kuchiba Chisa cosplay. When I first saw this character in Wuthering Waves, I was drawn to her distant yet secretly lively personality. To recreate her iconic look, I put a lot of effort into makeup and hair styling. Sleek black straight hair with straight-cut bangs, red ribbons decorating both sides, plus specifically chosen red contact lenses instantly brought me into her character state.

The design of this costume is super interesting, combining a classic sailor collar with a techwear-style distressed gray-green jacket, where a black-and-white striped neckerchief echoes a long red tie for rich layering. The bottom half pairs a pleated miniskirt with over-the-knee black stockings in a Black stockings cosplay look, topped with platform loafers to create an overall profile that feels both sharp and schoolgirl-like. This mix-and-match Cosplay outfit excels in front of the lens, as combining various fabric textures under light and shadow reveals rich dimension. The location was set on a high riverside platform at night, where red light emitted from the cable-stayed bridge behind provided a natural ambient backlight. The photographer excelled at leveraging this ambient light, combining it with a side red light source cast on rough stone walls to instantly dial the mystery and cool Night portrait vibe up to the max.

When conceptualizing poses, I wanted to match the red-heart letter prop, conveying the feeling of a junior schoolgirl inviting you to walk home after school. Thus came the gesture of handing out the letter with both hands, eyes looking slightly upward with a mix of earnestness and anticipation. While ambient lighting was strong, the biggest challenge in a Night portrait is ensuring soft fill light on the face. The photographer used a warm reflector to neutralize facial shadows, rendering features sharp and defined. Jacket zipper buckles and collar details remained clearly visible under lighting without losing any costume design nuance.

To capture natural expressions, we tried various angles along the stone railing. A seated posture allowed the skirt hem to flare naturally while perfectly highlighting the combination of over-the-knee socks and loafers. Moments captured while eating snacks or resting my chin on my hand felt much more lively and candid than deliberate poses. The chocolate snack package in hand and the large red lacquered prop resting beside me served as perfect visual anchors that enriched the scene. Fitting her character archetype—cool on the surface yet subtle and warm inside—I managed my facial expressions in a restrained yet gently warm manner.

The night wind was strong, blowing hair onto my face from time to time, but that ended up adding a touch of authentic dynamism. Coupled with river water reflections and distant vehicle bokeh, the frame felt rich and filled. The shoot stretched from dusk to late night, and teamwork with the photographer grew increasingly synchronized, capturing my exact envisioned mood with every shutter click. This set didn't rely excessively on post-processing special effects, leaning instead on pre-production lighting and environmental integration to faithfully depict her state under nighttime dark. As an attempt at Night portrait cosplay, this experience deepened my understanding of character interpretation, and I hope this work conveys the unique, straightforward charm of Kuchiba Chisa from Wuthering Waves.
