[Cartethyia Cosplay] The Night Elf on the Streets of Wuthering Waves

This time I cosplayed Cartethyia from Wuthering Waves.

Choosing urban stairs at night as the shoot background, I wanted to utilize the out-of-focus bokeh of streetlights and camera flash to highlight the character's temperament and costume texture. For the styling, a light golden-white wig and crisp, sharp blue contact lenses were used, serving as the visual center of the character's face. The blue-and-white chain hair accessory on the forehead and the elf ears are key accessories embellishing the sci-fi and fantasy elements. Especially the elf ears, which require careful blending to merge naturally into the hairline and avoid a noticeable seam, enhancing the overall elf style.

The layers of the costume are quite complex, featuring sharp lines running from the black choker and metallic pendants down to the white-and-blue miniskirt. The sleeves are a detached design connected by thin blue straps, offering a subtle sense of motion when walking or raising arms, making it a very exquisite design. To make the character look more lightweight, the skirt hem and streamers utilize a slightly glossy fabric that reflects a cool texture under the flash. The white high-heeled lace-up shoes on the feet echo the overall blue-and-white theme while making the posture look more slender, though this type of footwear requires careful control of one's balance and angles on stairs.

The shoot location was selected on outdoor stairs, where the night city streets provide rich colorful light sources—such as distant car lights and streetlamps—forming circular red, white, and blue bokeh under the lens's wide aperture. This backdrop intertwining warmth and coldness beautifully complements the light-toned costume, preventing the character from being swallowed by the dark night. During the shoot, a flash was used for front fill-light while retaining some ambient light to maintain the night portrait atmosphere. In squatting or sitting postures, the extension of the skirt hem and long streamers across the steps adds a narrative quality to the frame, lending a bit of slice-of-life relaxation to rigid standing poses. Compared to a solid-colored background in a studio, this night scene carrying the city's vibrant life makes it easier to immerse oneself in the character's world.

However, night cosplay photography brings significant challenges; the angle of the fill-light needs to be adjusted repeatedly to balance the shadows on the face and costume, ensuring sharp silhouettes without overexposure. Frizz in the wig caused by the night breeze also needs timely combing, and maintaining stability on the stairs with high-heeled sandals required repeating the pose many times to find a comfortable and photogenic angle. Overall, this night shoot experiment achieved the desired effect, combining the character's cool detachment with the colorful light and shadow of the city at night. It was an excellent session of cosplay photography; in the future, I can try some daytime running or skill-activation angles, alongside more real-scene interactions to enrich this character's presentation.
