On the second day of ChinaJoy at the Legends of the Three Kingdoms (Legends of the Three Kingdoms) booth, I finally brought my Diaochan cosplay offline. The intricate details of this costume are truly extensive; in preparation for this convention appearance, I started organizing the entire ensemble days in advance. The primary pink palette, bordered with golden trims and paillettes, paired with a wide golden choker necklace and crimson gemstones, creates a look that is both opulent and exotically captivating. The double-loop chignon wig and intricate golden filigree hair accessories carry considerable physical weight, placing noticeable tension on the scalp over time; yet for the sake of visual fidelity, donning them felt completely worth it the moment they were set in place. My makeup was also refined several times—crimson eyeshadow paired with winged eyeliner and a forehead gold ornament—chiefly to express Diaochan's signature blend of enchanting glamour and poised composure. Wearing extra-long translucent false nails for such an extended duration was a first for me, making me handle props and type on my phone with utmost caution to avoid breaking them.
On the exhibition floor, the entire day was spent constantly touching up makeup and adjusting wardrobe layers. Amidst the continuous flow of attendees, the slightest oversight would cause the tiered gossamer drapery and metallic accessories to slip down or tangle together. Yet seeing everyone enthusiastically capturing photos and hearing people call out the character's name instantly dissolved all fatigue. Having promised everyone online that we would chat more during offline meetups, gathering beside the booth with many familiar faces led to wonderful, lengthy conversations—covering everything from the craftsmanship of this costume to scouting photoshoot locations. While we interact regularly on social media platforms, chatting face-to-face offline carries a wonderfully distinct, relaxing warmth.
The booth scenography on site was equally refined, showcasing canonical in-game character illustrations across backdrop screens, flanked by prop screens of crimson carved woodwork. Standing there for photos amidst the surrounding convention spotlights created an undeniable dimension-breaking aura. Although the outfit is relatively revealing, with bare shoulders and waistline exposed, the venue's ample air conditioning combined with the heartwarming enthusiasm of surrounding fans kept me feeling comfortable and warm.
Because this was an active exhibition, my core focus was dedicated to interacting with attendees, meaning many complex poses and camera angles could not be exhaustively demonstrated. As I mentioned to friends earlier, though there were minor regrets, our next gathering must include dedicated shooting in a well-lit setting to capture all the garment nuances, facial expressions, and dynamic postures missed today, striving for even more satisfying final frames. Browsing around the show floor today also introduced me to fresh game lore designs and exquisite merchandise, deepening my connection with this character even further. While this ChinaJoy journey was exhausting, the takeaways were immense; once back home, I will diligently polish the photos and continue preparing even higher-caliber creative works.
