As a cosplayer, besides restoring the character's original setting, finding the angle and lighting most suitable for showcasing the costume, makeup, and prop details is also a highly important step. Taking advantage of the BW hype this time, I completed this blue-haired military uniform cosplay look's studio shoot for Helm ahead of schedule. Now that the convention is exactly underway, looking at myself in the photos makes me want to share some insights from this shoot.

Let's start with the most eye-catching head styling. This light blue long wig has an excellent translucent quality under the studio lights. To recreate this blue-haired character's signature hairstyle, I spent a long time adjusting the layers on the top and sides, ensuring it retains a smooth, natural feel while keeping the silhouette of the anime styling. The head ornament accessories are highly sophisticated—the white naval hat is paired with a golden star compass badge and tassels, plus that black rigid brow guard on the forehead, and the black pointed horns with V-shaped gold patterns on both sides. These components combine to instantly make the character's overall temperament look cool, detached, and solemn. I intentionally tilted the angle of the hat slightly to add a touch of playfulness and agility to the seriousness.

The costume's design details are the core of this look. The top is a pure white high-collar military uniform with a highly slim fit, featuring a row of golden buttons neatly arranged down the front, and the golden tassel epaulets on the shoulders are splendid without being cumbersome. The colorful medal bar on the chest, the wing-shaped golden badge, and the golden cord knot decorations pull the authority of the naval commander to the max. The blue armband worn on the left arm features an anchor pattern, forming a comfortable color combination that complements the overall white naval style beautifully. The white shorts of the lower body paired with the waist-cinching belt design perfectly showcase the character's physical proportions. Although this uniform has many layers, the fabric utilizes a rather stiff material to guarantee a crisp silhouette when worn, preventing it from looking loose or sloppy due to movements. I especially love the pose in image 4 where I am slightly turned sideways, with one hand resting on the shoulder; this angle beautifully displays the extended state of the white cape behind me, while also showcasing the slender leg lines, keeping the overall visual focus highly stable.

Regarding the choice of props, I prepared a silver long sword with a golden hilt. Striking a posture with a sword actually requires more fastidiousness than imagined, as the sword's weight limits many movements. In image 2, I lean forward and hold the sword flat toward the side-front, coordinating with the direction of my gaze to build a sharp sense of readiness to strike at any time; whereas in image 3, I hold the sword vertically in front of my face, utilizing the reflection and perspective of the silver blade as a foreground for the composition, adding layers and mystery to the frame. When conducting this set of photos, to display the character's composure and confidence, I chose a clean light gray-blue background, cooperating with soft studio lighting to beautifully present the translucent quality of the wig, the fabric texture of the white uniform, and the reflection of the metal accessories, without excessive elements stealing the spotlight.

I know today is precisely the day BW is being held. Although I couldn't personally be at the venue to meet up with fellow fans for convention photos, using this set of finely edited images to echo the bustling atmosphere of the convention can be seen as another form of participation. Since getting in touch with cosplay, I have increasingly felt that an excellent role-play requires not only fine costumes and props, but also the cosplayer's certain understanding of the character's temperament. This styling for Helm blends the rigor of a military uniform with anime fantasy elements. During the studio shoot, I tried my best to transmit that cool yet sharp unique aura through my expressions, movements, and gaze. From combing the wig, fine details of the makeup, to organizing every golden trim and tassel on the clothes, every step requires pouring patience. Seeing the effects presented in the final photos makes me feel that all the previous tedious preparations were completely worth it. I hope this navy-style visual layout with a white, blue, and gold color scheme can bring a different aesthetic experience to everyone, and count as a satisfying offline assignment handed in during this convention season.
