I finally had the chance to properly document this look after finishing The Herald Star of Fragrance photoshoot at the Magic Diary Cosplay Selfie Studio. Because I love the tailoring of this outfit so much, I communicated extensively with the stylist beforehand about the desired mood, focusing on highlighting the iconic red-and-white color palette and gem elements.
The costume itself is quite substantial; the deep crimson satin body radiates a soft, velvet-like sheen, enriched by abundant white lace and ruffles for a multi-layered effect. The black-and-red bow and ruby pendant at the collar are standout highlights, drawing visual focus right to the neck and shoulder area. To match the elegant and enigmatic atmosphere of Truth and Inference, I selected a pale pink wavy wig, paired with light purple contact lenses and cool-toned eyeshadow, while the red gem makeup under the eyes served as the crowning touch.
The props were also prepared with great care. The vintage perfume bottle had a wonderful tactile heft in hand, and paired with white gloves, it instantly channeled an aristocratic sense of ceremony with every subtle gesture. The white lace parasol was another major highlight—whether used as a scene prop or held directly to shade light and shadow, it added immense vintage court elegance.
During the shoot, we divided the session into several different sets. The dark red velvet backdrop paired with golden frames and candelabras gave the frame a gorgeous, dignified weight; another set featured semi-sheer white drapery and pink roses combined with pink smoke effects, making me feel as though I were immersed in a magical domain. To harmonize with the mysterious concept of The Herald Star of Fragrance, we incorporated dynamic light and shadow alongside numerous fluttering, yellowed letters—each detailed with a custom wax seal.
To flatter my figure, the high-low hemline of this dress and the agate-red Mary Janes paired with the Nude stockings cosplay elongated my leg lines wonderfully without compromising character fidelity. In several standing and leaning shots, the legs were showcased beautifully, adding another dimension of fidelity to the look. I felt a bit nervous when I first put on the costume, worried I wouldn't do justice to such vintage luxury, but once the studio lights and smoke were in place, slipping into character became second nature. Special thanks to Magic Diary Cosplay Selfie Studio for the venue—both the red curtains and golden frames matched our envisioned scenes flawlessly. In the latter half of the shoot, the photographer creatively used the golden frame for a picture-in-picture composition. Overall, capturing the charm of Perfumer cosplay under Truth and Inference in Identity V was a truly delightful experience.
