Shooting this set of Gardener cosplay from Identity V in Shenzhen (Shenzhen cosplay photography / Anime-style photography) went remarkably smoothly today. When scouting locations, we checked several parks and ultimately settled on this woodland. The tree trunks here are thick and sturdy, and the lawn is well-tended, making it ideal for images with this lush forest backdrop.

The outfit is a pale-green tulle design with multi-layered skirts that produce a lovely flowing flutter when walking. Dimensional flowers and golden leaf embellishments on the bodice keep the dress from looking too flat or plain before the camera. The headpiece is a full floral wreath dotted with yellow and white blossoms, accompanied by a woven flower basket prop in hand. For makeup, to align with the character's persona, I wore blue colored contacts and applied a slightly heavier blush across the cheeks to add a porcelain doll-like quality. Layering subtle details like the pearl necklace, golden armlets, thigh rings, and golden lace-up sandals brought extra refinement to the entire ensemble.

The shoot was scheduled for the afternoon when natural lighting is at its prime; backlighting against the body produced a luminous halo effect along the strands of hair. To capture dappled sunlight and shadows, the photographer searched for spots under tree shade, utilizing light filtering through leaves to deepen the visual layers. Finding this kind of forest elf style setting in Shenzhen is genuinely not easy—the lawn needs to stay vibrant green, the trees need to carry a seasoned, mature presence, and the sunlight must filter through cleanly. When shooting, to avoid light that is too flat or harsh, reflectors or diffusion filters are typically required. Luckily, the natural light this time was exceptionally ideal, and the chiaroscuro in the raw shots was already crystal clear and transparent.

Because the skirt is relatively short with a high-low train design (short in the front and long in the back), I constantly adjusted my sitting and standing poses to ensure the skirt draped beautifully while highlighting leg lines. Leaning against tree trunks or sitting on the grass as shown in the photos actually requires engaging your core to keep the posture upright, while simultaneously relaxing facial expressions. The Gardener character inherently carries a cheerful yet slightly detached disposition, living within her own little world. Therefore, in terms of movement, I avoided exaggerated physical gestures, relying more on subtle eye contact and gaze direction—such as gazing down at the flower basket or letting my eyes drift into a gentle daydream. When carrying the basket, hand positioning also required fine-tuning, keeping the wrists slightly lifted to avoid looking stiff. When sitting by the tree roots, natural bending and crossing of the legs added an effortless touch of languid grace to the frame.

The blossoms in the flower basket were deliberately curated—featuring petite pink and white flowers and green foliage that echoed the overall color palette. The sapphire ornament at the waist was a striking highlight of this costume, catching radiant refractions under the sunlight. For post-processing color grading, we leaned toward fresh, luminous tones, preserving broad expanses of green while infusing subtle cyan-blue into the shadows to grant the images greater clarity, perfectly fitting that fairytale blend with subtle eccentricity characteristic of the Gardener in Identity V.

Insect repellent is an absolute must-have experience when shooting on grassy lawns outdoors. Because of the surrounding trees, the sun's angle shifted rapidly, so we had to capture the best light within a limited window. Overall, the expressiveness of this styling under outdoor natural light was outstanding—the green dress blended harmoniously with the environment while retaining plenty of intricate details that popped.
