Shooting Kochiya Sanae from Touhou Project in the reed marsh truly fits the identity of a wind priestess and the character's original atmosphere perfectly. Taking advantage of the golden hour in the evening, I specially came to this open reed bed by the water for an Outdoor cosplay shoot, and the overall visual outcome turned out much better than expected.
Of course, I must mention the actual wind power at the seaside venue, which completely exceeded the weather forecast this time. When holding up the staff and banners, I had to constantly apply force with my wrists to steady the props, avoiding resistance from sudden strong gusts that could ruin the preset composition and stance. The impact on the wig was even more direct. Although a massive amount of hairspray and a wig cap had been used beforehand for basic fixation, in an environment where gusts blew almost constantly, the photographer still had to help comb through it whenever the shutter wasn't being pressed. Otherwise, the hair strands would easily get completely messed up, losing their original sense of layering and character traits.
In terms of matching the props and costume, I specifically coordinated for this white-and-blue outfit, especially the flowing feel of the cape and sleeve hems. The wind actually became an excellent dynamic aid in this set of photos, allowing the skirt hem and fabric to form very natural and smooth lines in the frame, making it far more vivid than deliberately forcing poses. During the shoot, I intentionally chose the transition zone between the reeds and the shallow sea, utilizing the lighting characteristics of a Backlit portrait under the sunset to beautifully highlight the translucency of the hair strands, feather headpiece, and clothing, while also giving the handheld props a subtle shimmering reflection.
For the makeup this time, I intentionally toned down heavy eyeshadow and kept a clean, translucent base so that the makeup wouldn't look stiff due to facial expressions during large movements. The rhythm of cooperation with the photographer was also quite relaxed; there was no need to freeze every shot in an exaggerated pose, and the naturally captured moments actually fit the character's original demeanor much better. This set of photos largely recreated the feeling in my mind of Sanae blending into the natural scenery. Sharing a few segments I'm quite satisfied with, hoping to provide some reference for fellow enthusiasts who usually enjoy outdoor shooting. This combination of reeds and the beach, paired with this outfit full of a divine and vibrant feel, makes it a truly perfect setting for a character outdoor shoot.
