[Flandre Scarlet Cosplay] Capturing a Vampire's Afternoon in a Touhou Project Vintage Study

For this shoot, we selected a vintage study as the primary scene. The dark red ambient lighting and dense, dark books on the shelves created a mysterious and tranquil fantasy ambiance. Starting from the overall character concept, we tried to blend the character's lively, spirited traits with classical literary elegance, hoping to present a set of visual frames filled with storytelling depth.

For the costume, we specifically chose a fluffy wine-red velvet dress in Lolita fashion style. Under dim lighting, this fabric revealed an exceptionally luxurious sheen, creating a vivid contrast against the white ruffled lace cuffs and tiered ruffles, faithfully recreating the ornate yet subtly innocent outfit from the original work. The long golden-blonde wig was styled with gentle curls and trimmed bangs to look fluffy and natural, paired with a white ruffled mob-cap headpiece and deep crimson side bows to secure the overall look.

For makeup, we focused on crafting a sweet aesthetic, using reddish-brown eyeshadow blended across a wide area, layered with prominent pink blush across the cheekbones and paired with glossy, rosy lips to give facial contours a three-dimensional pop against the rich red background. The reddish tones of the eye makeup echoed the wine-red theme of the costume, preserving her signature playfulness while bringing out a hint of mysterious charm.

The arrangement of props was another standout highlight of this set. The classic red apple in hand not only enhanced the narrative flow of the poses, but also provided a clear visual center for the composition. Additionally, we prepared an exquisite pink-and-white plush doll; holding it during shooting not only added interactive warmth, but also endowed the frame with even more cuteness. In the background, hanging colored crystal ornaments, teddy bears, and patterned throw pillows on the sofa enriched the indoor scene with intricate details.

During the shoot, we designed two primary posing postures. One featured sitting cross-legged atop the dark solid-wood desk, resting one cheek on a hand with a slightly tilted head to convey an effortless blend of nonchalance and playfulness. The other pose was seated on the carved wooden sofa in a natural, stretched posture—particularly with legs together extending forward, showcasing the white socks styling paired with wine-red strappy Mary Jane shoes, accentuating both the fluffiness of the skirt and the sleek leg lines. Integrating natural, everyday gestures into this classical setting allowed this Touhou Project Flandre Scarlet Cosplay to transcend mere costume display, bringing forth the character's vibrant, living essence.

For lighting setup, the photographer utilized high-contrast spotlights. Focused beams illuminated my face, blonde hair, and white blouse, while the dark bookshelf background receded gracefully into shadows. Warm amber sources and red ambient lights were dotted deep in the vintage study, enriching the color palette and preserving a retro cinematic quality intertwined with red and black in the shadows. This delicate shaping of light and shadow brought out an authentic texture in the apple and surrounding props.

To achieve the most satisfying final result, we repeatedly adjusted the velvet pleats and dress fit during preparation, ensuring the skirt maintained a flawless, fluffy silhouette both when sitting and standing. A tremendous amount of care was poured into this work, deepening my appreciation for this character. Although spending time adjusting the complex ruffles and wig took considerable effort, completing this faithful recreation in such a textured vintage study made every bit of preparation feel completely worthwhile. This completed photo set conveys the sweet yet mysterious aura that has always lived in my heart.
