[Cirno cosplay] Touhou Project: Gensokyo's Math Champion, a Water reflection Masterpiece

The makeup and styling for this Cirno cosplay referenced classic fanon settings in Touhou Project. The multiple layers of lace and ruffles on the dress, combined with the transparent wings on my back, gave the entire look exceptional translucency under the lighting. The location chosen was beside a stream surrounded by dense woods, where sunlight filtering through the foliage created gorgeous dappled light spots.

The biggest challenge on shooting day was the water. To ensure visual impact from a low-angle composition, I had to stand barefoot on moss-covered rocks, which were slippery, and the stream water was freezing. To perfectly capture the Water reflection, photographer @DongJilang positioned the camera right against the water's surface, using ripples across the water to distort my reflection and produce an ethereal, lively effect. Wearing a voluminous, intricate skirt, I had to stay balanced in the water to keep the hem from getting soaked through while coordinating with the photographer to capture the pose of resting my chin on one hand while gesturing backward with the other.

For makeup, I applied meticulous touches to match the original palette of Touhou Project; the deep blue wig reflected beautifully with rich texture on the water's surface. We adjusted styling details multiple times—such as the oversized bow on top and the support structure for the wings—to ensure a solid silhouette during full-body shots. The process was a test of patience, as we had to wait for the ripples to settle to capture clear reflections.

As for the character herself, the famous '1+1=⑨' math problem is delightfully fun. As Gensokyo's math champion, my calculation logic naturally differs from ordinary people! Putting on this outfit to embody the character made me feel playfully proud, despite the chilly water. I love shooting in natural environments like this; blending with nature brings out the unconstrained, unique aura of 2D characters, which is arguably the greatest charm of Anime cosplay. Completing this Stream photography session smoothly and recreating the ideal visual tension tested both styling and photography skills. From location scouting to final output, every detail preserved authentic 2D charm. The dress and wings required vigilance outdoors to avoid snagging on branches. Fortunately, everything went smoothly, culminating in this backlit barefoot masterpiece on the water.
