A great deal of thought went into this Hassan of Serenity cosplay set from planning to completion, aiming to recreate the character's dangerous and lonely temperament. To ensure a fragmented and mysterious scene, we specifically chose a studio with plenty of black tulle and cross elements for the shoot. In terms of costume, besides the signature high-necked hollow-out black bodysuit and leg-strap design, what satisfied me most was the featureless white mask in my hand. I specifically ordered a custom mask prop with a more bony texture; its weight in my hand made it perfect for various signature poses. The belt and waist pouches were also adjusted multiple times to maintain a sharp silhouette whether crouching or standing, without looking bulky.
The lighting scheme this time was critical. The photographer cleverly used cool blue light as the main light source, while utilizing low-angle reddish-purple light as a secondary rim light. This extreme dual-tone lighting, mixing warm and cool tones, perfectly fits Hassan of Serenity's visual keynote of sneaking under the cover of night. It nicely pushes the flowy nature of the black tulle and the skin texture of bare legs into the dark areas, while using the red light to outline the edges, giving the entire frame immense tension. During the shoot, we experimented with three different postures to find the best harmony with the scene: the first standing pose with the sharp cone prop showcased alertness; the second sitting on the prop box blended laziness with danger; the third crouching pose combined with holding the mask presented a tighter sense of oppression. Overall, the third crouching frame was the most complete in composition and lighting, and it's the moment I feel fits the work's setting best.
For post-processing, I avoided excessive skin smoothing to preserve the authentic skin texture and the dark style atmosphere of the photos. I mainly focused on unifying the warm and cool color temperatures and deepening the vignettes around the frame edges. Among the many Servants in the Fate series, Hassan of Serenity might not be the most popular or mainstream one, but her character design naturally carries a charm of 'silent assassination,' which is an important reason why I chose to cosplay her this time. Through this attempt, my understanding of the character deepened by a layer, and I hope the presented images allow everyone to feel her inherent coldness and tension. This was a highly meaningful session of Cosplay photography; the whole process was both painful and joyful.
