The lighting at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo was remarkably bright. I smoothly brought Phoebe from Wuthering Waves to the Anime convention floor, and this ensemble required immense dedication to polish every detail from preparation to the official shoot.
In terms of costume selection, to capture Phoebe's crisp yet subtly mysterious disposition, I chose structured white fabric for the main dress. This ensured the cuts along the skirt hem and neckline wouldn't sag, retaining clean geometric three-dimensional lines. For the large blue tasseled cape at the back, I selected a lustrous satin fabric and intentionally extended the length of the ribbons. When turning around or brandishing the staff, the blue ribbons traced fluid, sweeping arcs through the air, instantly elevating the overall depth. The black fan-shaped accents at the neckline, the rigid choker around the neck, and the cascading blue tassels all added rich craftsmanship to the styling, ensuring the pure white colorway never looked flat.
Prepping the character's blonde wig took considerable time. I used a curling iron to re-sculpt the curls on both sides, followed by targeted teasing with hair wax, finally placing black ribbon bows and blue cross hairpins as accents on the crown and sides. While staying outdoors in summer heat might feel stuffy, the overall styling achieved a gorgeous oil-painting texture under the convention lighting. For makeup, I opted for a luminous base paired with blue-purple contact lenses, softly transitioning into light reddish eyeshadow at the outer corners of the eyes with delicately curled lashes, aiming to capture the character's lively yet cool gaze.
The most exhausting yet fulfilling part of this convention shoot was that black staff crowned with a golden bird. Crafted from solid materials, the staff felt substantial in hand, and holding it one-handed for photos genuinely tested arm strength. To keep body postures natural during shooting, while keeping my core engaged and posture upright, I incorporated subtle gestures—adjusting the cap brim with one hand, lightly touching my chin, or resting the staff diagonally across my shoulder. These nuanced details broke the rigidity of static standing poses.
The on-site stage set matched the character's aura wonderfully: red-and-white checkerboard flooring, white arched portals, and red velvet drapery in the background created strong stage presence with minimal post-processing. With heavy foot traffic at the Anime convention, dodging cluttered crowds in a compact shooting zone required constant coordination with the photographer regarding positions and angles, seeking optimal moments where light hit my face. Despite the fast-paced rush and fielding media lenses, capturing several satisfying shots in such a packed venue yielded great rewards for our Cosplay photography.
While sorting through the photos, I noticed that whether sitting poised, standing with the staff in hand, or lounging relaxed against white props, each frame captured the distinctive beauty of this costume across diverse angles. From thoughtful wardrobe styling to textured wig layers, I hope this set of live photos conveys my dedication and understanding of this Phoebe Cosplay.
