The moment I received this deep blue sailor uniform, I began pondering how to showcase it best in the studio. Starting with the wig: the light blue long wig inherently carries distinct character styling, but the crown required manual braided styling—I wove crossing braids encircling the crown while letting the long side tresses drape naturally, accenting the sides near the ears with two black ribbon bows. To make the wig appear more organic, I deliberately left soft subtle curls at the tips to avoid a stiff, flat look. In terms of makeup, to harmonize with the coordinate's palette, I selected greenish-brown contact lenses, blending warm orange-reddish eyeshadow tones across the eyelids and finishing with a vibrant red lip tint, striving for a translucent, clean skin finish.
Looking at wardrobe details, the crisp white trim running along the sailor collar and the grey ribbon necktie across the chest boast lovely texture, with the delicate yellow pinstripes on the tie serving as a signature detail from the original design. The bottom is a navy pleated skirt featuring two white parallel stripes near the hem. Because pleated skirts easily lose definition under studio strobes, I invested considerable time pressing and steaming the pleats flat prior to shooting. The gathered cuff design, paired with mid-calf white socks and chunky black heeled loafers, locked in a strong Sailor uniform JK aesthetic.
For this shoot, we opted for a seamless pure white backdrop paper and a white cylindrical pedestal without extraneous chromatic distractions; the lighting was diffused and softly balanced, perfectly accentuating the deep blues of the uniform and the cool ethereal tone of the wig. The photographer offered invaluable guidance on posing, leading us through varied postures. We began with a seated pose, gently touching my index finger to my lower lip to evoke a pensive, slightly distant state of mind. Later, we captured standing sequences—such as raising one arm overhead while tilting the torso subtly, a gesture relying on the elongation of arms and waistline to break up visual stillness. There was also a profile glance over the shoulder, which required precise control over shoulder and neck angles.
In the second half, we introduced floral bouquets and a flower basket as props. Seated atop the white cylinder with legs crossed, holding a few pale blossoms in hand, the composition achieved a delightfully rich structure. During shooting, showcasing clean leg contours was crucial: crossing legs not only visually elongates proportions, but pairing white socks with black footwear also establishes crisp color contrast. To nail the optimal framing, we iteratively adjusted seated postures on the pedestal, verifying the drape of the skirt pleats and floral placements. The entire process flowed seamlessly—from upfront wig trimming and makeup tests to on-set lighting coordination, every nuance underwent micro-adjustments. This style deeply tests fluid posture and expressive eye contact, so I kept myself relaxed before the lens, immersing into the character's emotional world to make every movement flow naturally. The final frames fulfilled our initial expectations and deepened my connection to this ensemble.
