This time, my partner and I shot a same-frame cosplay of Kikyo and Kagome, which counts as fulfilling an obsession from back when I followed the anime in my childhood. The hand-holding set in the images restores the moment when the two clasped hands in the anime; though separated by time, life, and death, that sense of a shared bond is truly touching. To capture Kagome's agility, the outdoor archery set specially sought out a windy environment; when the long hair flew up, it genuinely added more combat tension. Kikyo's miko outfit has a lot of details; we repeatedly adjusted the red knots and the sleeve patterns, and the posture for holding the bow also referenced the storyboards in the original work. The frames pulling the bow while jumping were actually tried quite a few times, as we had to ensure the expression didn't get messy while stabilizing the body alignment, and even though the prop bow is light, maintaining balance required core strength. From makeup and hair styling to movements, this set of works stays as close as possible to the characters' own personality traits, without deliberately trying to be melodramatic, but simply wanting to convey that quiet yet firm atmosphere through the photos. The photographer helped immensely with light, shadow, and composition, allowing the final photos to preserve an anime feel while gaining a bit more realistic human texture. Being able to re-materialize these classic memories through cosplay is a highly meaningful thing in itself.
