[Momoka Hanyuu cosplay] Idol Presence in the Blue Hour: Arknights Rooftop Photoshoot Share

The lighting during the Blue Hour always carries a distinct, romantic coolness. This time, I took the DJI Pocket 4 Pro up to a rooftop to record these Momoka Hanyuu captures. From the gentle fading of daylight to the full descent of twilight, that clear and luminous transition of deep blue serves as the ultimate natural backdrop for an idol-themed character.

To recreate Momoka's lively idol stage atmosphere, dedicated preparations were made regarding gear and lighting. Wanting that natural motion of wind catching the hair, I specifically chose an open outdoor rooftop where the breeze gently ruffled hair strands and costume hems, adding dynamic vitality to the frame.

For lighting, two LED fill lights were deployed. The first was positioned behind and to the side of the subject as a rim light; illuminating the edges of the pink hair and white jacket, it crisply carved the character's silhouette out against the deep blue sky, creating softly glowing contours that enhanced three-dimensional depth. The second light was placed slightly off-center in front to provide soft key lighting. This ensured facial makeup details remained sharp and catchlights appeared natural in the dim Blue Hour setting, avoiding the harshness of direct, hard frontal light.

The shooting device used was the DJI Pocket 4 Pro. Having previous experience using compact gimbals and action cameras outdoors, I had high expectations for its image quality and stabilization. In practice, horizontal 4K 50fps delivered exceptionally smooth and detailed footage. While many might worry that small-sensor cameras struggle in low light, pairing it with the aforementioned lighting setup yielded very satisfying results. I locked the ISO range between 50 and 800, letting it float within a clean threshold to avoid excessive noise from high sensitivity.

Exposure compensation was set to +0.7. The lighting contrast during the Blue Hour is naturally steep—the sky is bright while facial illumination is limited. Adding slight exposure compensation allowed the background sky highlights to clip just a touch, crafting a dreamy, hazy Japanese blue aesthetic. Preserving edge highlight details alongside a 4300K color temperature gave the overall frame a cool blue-violet tone. Normal 10-bit color mode was chosen to provide ample headroom in post-production. To ensure authentic skin textures, internal beautification features were turned off.

During the export phase, video frame grabs were exported via DJI Mimo with HDR enabled to better retain details in both highlights and shadows. For filters, "Fresh Chili" was set to +50, which performs exceptionally well with blue skies. Highlights were bumped by +12, color temperature lowered by -1 to enhance the sky's depth, and sharpness increased by +10 to crisp up zippers and fine hair edges.

In terms of camera placement on the rooftop, a small step stool is indispensable if you want to capture more sky. Elevating the camera angle or the model's stance slightly avoids the cluttered lines of surrounding buildings, letting the clean blue sky serve as the primary canvas for a much cleaner, more sophisticated composition.

Idol presence stems from expressions and subtle movements. During the shoot, we guided interactive gestures—such as gazing into the distance while holding a microphone or posing playfully with a staff. The close intimacy offered by the DJI Pocket 4 Pro makes it ideal for capturing interactive solo close-ups. Long pink hair paired with red bows, combined with the white-and-blue jacket and red gloves, creates a color combination with immense visual tension against the deep blue twilight backdrop.

From conception to execution, this Blue Hour cosplay photography plan was an immersive experience where lighting, props, and camera parameters reached a harmonious balance. Looking past complex technical settings, genuinely savoring that moment where the breeze intertwined with blue light and capturing the character's lively presence naturally imbued the final imagery with that quintessential idol live performance atmosphere.
