Today I'm sharing this Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay. To faithfully recreate this classic blue-and-white color-themed look, quite a bit of thought went into the preparation stage.
First is the wig. This light blue long straight hair required processing the braided textures on top of the head and the curvature of the sideburns. I trimmed the wig in layers, kept the thickness of the bangs, and used lace bow hair accessories on both sides to secure the styling. The hair fibers are prone to reflection under lighting, so I used wig care spray before the shoot to manage the frizz and maintain overall smoothness. The braids on top actually utilized a few hair extensions for added height, then were combed and set piece by piece. To make the side hair bun look more natural, the clips of the hair accessories were also repeatedly adjusted.
The costume is a pure white lace Lolita dress. The details of this garment are extremely rich, featuring vertical ruffles and heart-shaped rhinestone buttons on the chest, paired with a wide bow and a heart-shaped metal buckle at the waist. To prop up the outfit's silhouette, I wore a petticoat underneath. The lace wrist cuffs at the collar and wrists also needed careful wearing, and the positions of the pearls and heart pendants required symmetrical adjustments. When putting on this outfit, the zipper and straps in the back required assistance to tighten, and the waist bow easily deformed during movement, so I was constantly tidying up during breaks between shots. The lace at the cuffs was a bit itchy, but I kept wearing it for the sake of the effect.
In terms of makeup, the focus was on a large area of blended pink blush and natural brown colored contacts, creating a refined feel leaning toward a 2D doll, while the base makeup maintained a matte and translucent finish. The eye makeup used a light pink base, layered with a bit of glitter at the inner corners of the eyes to make the gaze look brighter. The lip makeup chose a dewy pink tone, echoing the blush. The makeup's longevity was heavily demanded, and setting powder was touched up a few times during the shoot.
During the shoot, I tried various hand gestures to enrich the frame, such as gently touching my cheek with one hand, resting my chin on both hands, or lightly stroking the side of my neck with my fingers. These movements nicely showcased the lace details on the wrists while making facial expressions more lively. When facing the lens, the focusing of the gaze and the control of micro-expressions were crucial, requiring switching between calm and playful based on the photographer's guidance. For example, when pointing a finger at the cheek, the gaze carried a slight sense of innocence; when resting the chin, facial muscles were slightly relaxed to create a lazy atmosphere.
The lighting for the studio shoot used high-key soft light without harsh shadows, which allowed the white clothes and blue wig to transition very naturally within the frame. Earlier on, we spent quite a bit of time on lighting setups, adjusting the ratio of main light to fill light to prevent the white Lolita dress from overexposing and losing details. Post-processing mainly adjusted the overall color temperature to make the blue-and-white contrast cleaner, slightly increasing sharpness.
The entire shooting process went smoothly, the photographer's candid shots were spot on, and I am very satisfied with the resulting photos. The shooting of this styling has come to a conclusion. If there are opportunities in the future, I will try other styles of anime cosplay and continue to polish my styling and camera presence.
