For this outdoor Kazami Yuuka cosplay shoot, the location was chosen in a vast, vibrant sunflower field. To present the most perfect effect, a lot of preparation went into the clothing and styling beforehand. The outfit is the classic red-and-white plaid vest dress paired with a white shirt featuring ruffled cuffs, tied with a yellow bow at the neckline, and decorated with sunflower button details on the skirt. The wig is trimmed shoulder-length green hair with straight bangs, specially matched with bright red contact lenses, and pinned with a white-and-yellow floral hair accessory on the side, striving to restore the character's iconic features. The prop is a freshly picked bouquet of sunflowers.
On the day of the shoot, the sunlight was abundant, and the colors of the sunflower sea were extremely saturated. Sunflowers as a plant have an extremely high affinity with Kazami Yuuka as a character, both carrying a sort of vigorous vitality and natural elegance. During the shooting process, natural light was utilized as the focus. For instance, the glancing-back shot borrowed side-backlighting so that the sunlight hit the green hair strands, outlining the hair's contour while the red eyes and sunflower colors formed a sharp contrast. The frontal shot was captured with front lighting, clearly displaying the costume's texture and details, and the action of touching the cheek was intended to make the posture appear softer. Because the sunflower heads are relatively large, angles had to be adjusted when holding the flowers to avoid blocking the face or looking bulky.
In expression management, instead of making overly exaggerated two-dimensional expressions, a faint, confident smile was maintained, which is also a part of the character's temperament. Outdoor shooting indeed requires constantly adjusting positioning and angles due to changeable lighting; to capture the light and shadow filtering through the leaf gaps, we moved around the ridge many times. Additionally, in clothing coordination, to ensure comfort during outdoor activities, a highly breathable shirt was chosen for the inner layer, and the waistline of the vest dress was tailored appropriately. The color tone of the entire set of photos is green, red, and yellow, and post-processing only slightly adjusted the brightness and color saturation, preserving the original translucent feel of the frame. To prevent the green wig from looking too abrupt under the sunlight, the brightness of the wig's ends was intentionally darkened in post-processing to help it better blend into the environment. Regarding the use of props, that bunch of sunflowers was actually quite heavy and required core strength to hold up continuously, so my arms got a bit sore after a while; however, seeing how the flowers complemented the face in the final photos made all that physical effort worthwhile. The most important things to watch out for when shooting outdoor flower field locations are bug and sun protection; although the temperature was pleasant that day, standing in the grass for too long still brought some small flying bugs, so carrying mosquito repellent came in very handy. The red plaid of this outfit stands out remarkably against the green background, forming a classic red-and-green contrast, and this high-saturation color pairing is visually impactful. Completing this set of feature photos on an afternoon with superb weather went very smoothly, and it also accumulated a lot of experience in outdoor light control.
