[Flandre Scarlet Cosplay] Touhou Project: Daily life of the Scarlet Devil Mansion's younger sister

This time I shot Flandre Scarlet, the younger sister master of the Scarlet Devil Mansion who speaks her mind whenever she wants. Before the shoot, I actually hesitated for a long time, feeling that playing such a character with a distinct personality would really test one's state to bring out that casual and willful energy. But once I got to the site, put on this red and white dress, wore the fluffy blonde wig, and coordinated them with those rainbow crystal ornaments hanging on the black vines, I instantly felt myself get into character for this anime cosplay.

Let's talk about the costume first. The essence of this photo set actually lies in the heavy lace stacking on the neckline and cuffs. Unlike ordinary dresses, its combination of a red vest and white ruffles has a very special fairytale texture. Especially the white underskirt, which is covered by a red overskirt, with the edges entirely transitioned using dense ruffles. The light yellow bow tie in front of the chest is the finishing touch, adding a sense of softness to the overall frame. The wig was trimmed to be relatively fluffy and casual, without intentionally combing it too neatly, which actually aligns closer to the character's trait of looking obedient but being wild inside.

The selection of the scene also took a lot of thought. The dark vintage carved leather sofa in the studio, along with the wooden fireplace and classical oil paintings behind it, instantly pulled people into that mysterious Scarlet Devil Mansion afternoon tea atmosphere, making it a perfect backdrop for a vintage portrait. There was also that Gothic-style pointed arch window; the light from outside filtered through onto me, and combined with the warm yellow main light source, it left a beautiful sense of layering on my face and skirt. The photographer was very professional with the light and shadow control; when taking the full-body photo, they specially stood on the right side to cast a side-backlight, making that string of colorful crystal ornaments shine brilliantly, instantly bringing out that interwoven texture of magic and darkness.

Speaking of the shooting process, it was actually really fun holding that brown teddy bear. The plush bear prepared by the prop team felt great to hold, and sitting on the wide leather sofa with it softened my aura a bit. But when I needed to coordinate with that black vine prop for a standing pose or a backward-glance movement, I realized that the string of multi-faceted crystals was actually quite heavy, and I had to control the force well when swinging it, otherwise it was easy to lose balance. During the full-body image shooting, in order to display the fluffiness of the skirt and the proportions of the legs, I changed postures several times, kneeling and sitting sideways on the floor and the sofa, but fortunately, the movements for the overall output were relatively smooth and natural.

The post-processing of this set didn't use excessive modifications, preserving that slightly dark yet warm atmosphere of the vintage environment. The eye makeup used a reddish eyeshadow combined with light-colored contacts to make the gaze look more agile. The fingertips were painted with light green nail polish, forming a small color contrast with the main palette of red and white, which counts as a clever little detail. I rarely have the chance to challenge a character with such tsundere and slightly arrogant attributes, but after experiencing this shoot, I feel I can completely handle that casual and carefree vibe of "scolding whoever I want."

When finalizing the draft, I selected these photos with different emotions—some staring blankly while holding the bear, some tilting the head in thought, and others fully displaying the completeness of the costume in a full-body view. I hope this set of photos conveys not just a beautiful look, but more of the atmosphere and storytelling that matches the character's temperament. Doing this full look was indeed exhausting, but the moment I saw the final photos, I felt all the trouble was worth it. This attempt at a vintage-style anime cosplay can be considered a highly satisfying breakthrough for me.
