[Yakumo Yukari cosplay] Master of Gaps in Touhou Project: Chongqing THO Scene Record - Image 1

At the Chongqing THO anime convention, I finally took photos of this Yakumo Yukari cosplay look that I prepared for so long. As a classic character in Touhou Project, Yakumo Yukari's design features rich elements; combining a Japanese maid outfit feel with the mystery of the \"Master of Gaps\" required significant effort in makeup and styling.

Let's talk about styling details first. For hair, a cream-toned blonde wig was used; to create fluffy low twintails and natural bangs, the top was crimped high, and bangs were trimmed carefully so as not to block the purple contact lenses. The large-diameter purple contact lenses with a black outer ring and purple iris instantly focused my gaze into a captivating state, perfectly fitting her character traits. To secure the white lace-ruffled headband, hidden clips and hairnets were used inside, and the red-bordered plush fabric on both sides was specifically structured so it wouldn't collapse during photos.

The main outfit is a dark high-collared top with delicate dark jacquard textures, fine black lace, and metal buttons on the chest, elevating overall texture significantly. White puff sleeves paired with shoulder pleats balanced top-heavy visual weight. What satisfied me most were the two red ribbon bows tied around the twintails, where embedded purple gemstones brightened the visual center and echoed the purple contacts nicely.

Doing cosplay in a massive convention environment like Chongqing THO, the biggest challenge isn't the costume itself, but keeping top condition in a noisy hall. Because it's character cosplay, even though the weather was muggy, I didn't take off the outer high-collared jacket, keeping my best performance before the camera at the Cosplay scene. Many people at conventions associate Yukari with gaps, so I accommodated everyone with a few hand poses opening gaps, playing into her \"Master of Gaps\" meme.

Cosplaying a Touhou Project character tests a cosplayer's skills, from makeup and wig care to outfit fit; every detail affects final restoration accuracy in Convention photos. Today's base makeup was given a matte finish to make purple contacts look translucent under flashes. Blush was applied lightly, and lip color kept a natural pinkish hue, keeping visual focus on eyebrows, eyes, and styling. Though exhausted after the event, seeing the results in this photo made everything worth it.

As a cosplayer who frequents conventions, I love Touhou settings—not only for character diversity, but also for discovering character traits across different convention environments. This Yakumo Yukari look took several weeks of planning and execution, especially balancing the headpiece and twintail proportions through repeated fittings.

The vibe at Chongqing THO was fantastic—many fellow fans are heavy ACG lovers who greeted warmly, discussing character and costume crafting details. Cosplaying a beloved character and capturing a satisfying photo brings fulfillment only experienced firsthand. Even amidst passing crowds, stepping into character lets one immerse completely in their own world.

Elements brought out are fully displayed in this photo: high-collared dark patterned top, classic red bows with purple gems, blonde hair, purple eyes, and the eye-catching red-bordered white lace headband. When shooting such characters, eye expression is crucial; combined with purple contact lenses and wig, I think it captured a touch of Yukari's divine trait of seeing through everything.
