During the Labor Day holiday, this shoot for the Furina fan art look was finally wrapped up with complete success! The outdoor sunlight at the convention venue was blazing that day, yet this blue-and-white ensemble looked remarkably crisp and refreshing on camera. In fact, when I first saw the project interest check for this outfit, I was immediately drawn to the navy sailor-style cap and the scattered blue star pendants dangling around the waist. There are numerous canon versions of Furina across Genshin Impact, but this fan art design—complete with a sailor collar and midriff-baring cut—effortlessly harmonizes youthful sweetness with breezy summer vibes.
Prepping the wig took nearly an hour. The silver-white gradient strands required texturing to achieve that naturally voluminous curl, and her iconic ahoge at the crown needed repeated sculpting with hairspray. For makeup, to complement the aquatic blue outfit, I selected bright blue contact lenses with a soft reddish blend swept across the outer corners of my eyes, paired with a noticeable dusting of blush so my complexion wouldn't wash out under harsh daylight.
The shooting process was full of fun, with props thoroughly prepared: a chubby round blue plush doll and a giant translucent purple inflatable ring were brought in to enrich compositional depth. For the first frame crouching forward with hands extended, the photographer shot continuous bursts to freeze the bubbles floating mid-air. I kept squeezing the bubble-blower toy to create that interactive 'blowing bubbles toward you' perspective; the bubbles glinted with iridescent reflections under the sun, infusing the shot with playful, spirited charm.
The second composition—seated on a black stool—is a personal favorite. After smoothing out the white leg warmers with the blue satin ribbons cascading down, paired with the black thigh straps, it created an elongating visual effect akin to chic Stockings styling. The giant purple swim ring not only blocked out background clutter, but also forged an appealing chromatic contrast against the blue fabrics. Crowds were thick and noisy at the convention, but the photographer skillfully found clean angles, using a wide aperture to melt away the background throngs and lock visual weight squarely onto the subject and props.
This garment incorporates rich nuances: the top features a blue-and-white sailor collar edged with golden piping and metal insignia, while the left detached sleeve is tailored into a bow silhouette, accented at the waist by a jeweled chain dangling sapphire ornaments. To ensure fluid posing, I constantly monitored the fit around the neckline and waist to prevent any wardrobe malfunctions.
This mutual-collaboration shoot was a fantastic experience—communication with the photographer was seamless, and turnaround was impressively swift. Though a high-intensity shoot on Labor Day was physically tiring, seeing how the floating bubbles and refreshing blues came together made all the groundwork worthwhile. Next, we're planning a session in a white cyclorama studio; free from the unpredictable outdoor lighting, a studio environment should reveal even finer fabric textures and makeup nuances, and I can't wait to explore fresh lighting aesthetics there!
