This shoot selected the character Columbina from Genshin Impact, with the focus on capturing a serene, ethereal, and mysterious aura. Before the shoot, I was already highly looking forward to the blue and white flower sea backdrop arranged in the studio. Combined with that pair of customized large wings, a sense of dreamy wings was already vividly apparent. The material of the costume primarily features thin sheer tulle and fabrics with excellent drape, which can coordinate beautifully with the cool-toned light sources in the studio. The addition of white dove elements adds a layer of holy vitality to the overall frame, complementing the character's quiet, dust-free temperament seamlessly.
This shoot location was in Meizhou, and the studio backdrop arranged by Nianling Photography Studio was exceptionally thoughtful. A large number of cool-toned LED light beads were embedded within the flower clusters in advance. In a dark-toned environment, this creates a spectral blue glowing effect, cooperating with the light beams behind the figure to present a powerful contrast between light and dark. During the shoot, I communicated with the photographer for a long time. To avoid breaking this serenity, we tried our best to avoid overly intense front-facing flat light, relying instead on top light and the bottom cool light for assistance, using this to outline the textures of the costume's sheer tulle and the translucency of the wings. Many shots adopted high-angle bird's-eye views and tilted compositions, requiring me to strike various natural and extended poses on the ground. Although lying flat and turning sideways for a long time made my body a bit tired, the resulting visual tension in the frames was indeed sufficient for this piece of girl photography.
The glowing wings were heavier in volume than imagined. Because of the semi-transparent material and the built-in light beads, I needed to handle my movements very carefully to prevent the light cords from tangling or the tulle surfaces from knotting. To coordinate with the doves in the scene, we attempted multiple interactions. Although the white dove is a prop, properly handling its angle, light, and shadow can likewise allow the frame to possess a dynamic sense of beauty. This type of shoot leaning toward concept and atmosphere heavily tests the coordination of styling, light, and shadow compared to purely static posing.
Here, I truly want to give special thanks to the photographer teacher, who specifically took a trip to Meizhou for Meizhou photography to complete this set of works with me. After arriving at the studio, the teacher barely rested and plunged directly into arranging props and adjusting lights, continuously fine-tuning the lighting angles and camera positions just to present a visual delivery that most closely fits the character's aura. Although the shooting process was a bit exhausting, every time I saw the light and shadow effects getting better through the viewfinder, the sense of accomplishment in my heart would grow a bit more. Especially when shooting the moment where I lay back into the flower clusters with the overhead light beam pouring down and the dove next to me seemingly resting, the narrative feel of the entire frame instantly stood firm.
Regarding post-processing, to preserve the cool-toned texture of the flower clusters, no overly rich or heavy color processing was made, primarily featuring a clean, translucent, and dark visual layering. The crescent moon and starlight accessories on the costume look exceptionally prominent in the darker environment, and the wing hair accessories on the head pair beautifully with the lattice makeup on the face. I hope this set of works, which leans toward a serene and noble style overall, can transmit that unique perspective of drifting between dreams and reality.
