My schedule for this convention was locked in for Hyacinthia from Honkai: Star Rail, largely because I've always adored her fairytale charm and bubbly personality, making an anime expo the perfect opportunity to bring her to life. In styling the look, I retained her iconic Pink twin tails while adding teal-blue dip-dyed gradients along the tips. To make the layering pop, styling the wig demanded generous amounts of holding spray and flat irons, texturizing each strand repeatedly to ensure the twintails wouldn't collapse before the camera.
For makeup, the focus was placed squarely on the eyes. To match her vibe, I wore cyan-blue contact lenses, using a low-saturation pink base eyeshadow layered with mascara and crisp eyeliner to enlarge the eyes, finished with deeper pink blush dusted under the eyes and cheeks to emulate that vibrant 2D flush.
The outfit featured a red beret, a red short-sleeved top with a Peter Pan collar, a blue necktie, and a delicate metal crest pinned to the neckline. Because the hall's air conditioning was quite chilly, I draped an off-white knit cardigan over my shoulders; its geometric red-and-blue knit sleeves matched the canonical colorway seamlessly. The white shorts on the lower half made walking around the bustling expo halls remarkably effortless.
The undisputed centerpiece of the shoot was the giant White Rabbit creamy candy bolster pillow in my arms. Since Hyacinthia's design carries a sweet, whimsical fairytale warmth that resonates with the nostalgic White Rabbit candy aesthetic, I specifically brought this oversized prop along. While shooting at the event, the blue exhibition booth and LED light strips in the background echoed the wardrobe's color palette effortlessly. I even spotted a standee of a handsome male character and leaned in to flash peace signs for fun comparison shots. Overall, the makeup, costume, and props meshed wonderfully, making for a joyful day at the con. Despite the exhaustion from navigating dense crowds, the resulting frames turned out delightfully. I hope this Hyacinthia look conveys the sweet, sugary charm of White Rabbit creamy candy.
Admittedly, navigating the expo in full gear wasn't entirely effortless, especially guarding that massive bolster pillow against dirt and crushing crowds. Yet hoisting that pillow for photos while my twintails swayed behind me truly felt like bringing 2D cuteness into tangible reality. When scouting photo spots, we picked this azure booth that, paired with ambient circular dot lighting, delivered a translucent, crisp look with minimal fill light. To stay in character before the lens, I kept my energy buoyant and flashed the occasional playful wink to boost emotional resonance. We shot continuously from morning until afternoon, and while it was physically draining, reviewing the final camera preview made every drop of exhaustion feel completely worthwhile.
