Regarding this Ganyu Little Witch cosplay, although the cowlick in the first photo was captured by the photographer looking a bit limp, it was actually quite bouncy on-site. It just looked slightly flat due to the angle and wind speed during the shoot, which is a minor regret.
This derivative modified style of the Genshin Impact character is actually rarely cosplayed right now, which, frankly, was what attracted me in the first place. Its design integrates the character's signature elements with a magical style; the light blue wig combined with the purple contact lenses and the ruffled little witch hat brings a very strong visual impact.
However, the drawback of this styling is also highly obvious—the hat is absolutely massive and incredibly easy to slip off. In the studio, every time I made a slightly larger movement, the hat would tilt or slide off completely, requiring us to constantly adjust the angle and retake the shots. Luckily, the photographer I booked this time, @Kevin_CosPhotoGrapher, is extremely professional and patient. His control over lighting is highly precise, especially his use of this side-light, which gives the frame a strong sense of three-dimensionality. He is exceptionally skilled at utilizing background blur to isolate the subject from messy environments, ensuring that both skin texture and costume details are restored to the maximum extent.
Beyond the hat, another highlight of this outfit lies in the asymmetrical design—the color contrast between the black gloves and the white corset, paired with the small golden bell on the neck, rings softly with every movement, giving the character extra vitality. The red-and-black horn accessories beside the ears were actually the hardest parts to secure, as they needed to visually correspond with the hat and hair. We were very meticulous in handling the makeup and wig styling back then just to present a better texture. During the shoot, I kept paying attention to various angles, seeing whether wearing the hat brought out a stronger witch vibe or if removing the hat to reveal my eyes and hair like in Figure 1 felt more approachable. Looking at these final selected photos, I personally feel they were interpreted quite well.
Getting such god-tier angle captures from the photographer was truly fortunate. Cosplay is not just about putting on clothes, but also about understanding and reproducing the character. Although this Little Witch cosplay style might not be immediately accepted by everyone, trying new styles is always filled with pleasant surprises. During the preparation stage, from patterning to prop making, and then to makeup color testing, we spent many days and nights. We even specifically chose a certain fabric to recreate that lightweight feel. Now seeing the finished photos, I still feel all the effort was completely worth it. I also welcome everyone to pay more attention to the photographer; his lens can discover many unexpected beauties. The black-and-white patchwork fabric of this costume actually has a pearlescent luster, presenting different layers under specific light sources. During the shoot, the photographer kept emphasizing that I should turn my body slightly toward the light source so that the golden bell on my neck could catch the reflection instead of turning completely dark. I must say, this kind of micro-adjustment truly reflects the photographer's professionalism, as a small angle can completely change the photo's texture. In this set of photos, there are basically no awkward white balance issues, and the post-processing didn't rely on excessive skin smoothing; it was more about restoring the natural light perception we see with our naked eyes. The fact that the cowlick was bouncy actually put me at ease, because I knew that as long as we didn't over-pursue rigid fixation, this natural fluttering feel fits the agile nature of the witch setting much better. Although the hat was indeed the biggest challenge of my entire styling—during the shoot for Figure 2, I was almost holding the edge of the hat with one hand while posing with the other—the output turned out surprisingly well. In fact, the half-concealed composition felt even more mysterious than exposing everything. Completing this set of work this summer has truly given me new enthusiasm and expectations for Genshin Impact cosplay.
