Regarding this set of Ganyu photos, the treatment of the backdrop and light and shadow during the shoot is what I primarily want to talk about. The venue was chosen in an indoor studio with a highly dreamy backdrop, decorated with a large number of blue hydrangeas and white semi-transparent tulle veils, which perfectly brought out Ganyu's cool yet slightly soft temperament.
The most meticulous parts of the styling this time were the bell collar on the neck and the black-and-red horn ornaments. Paired with the light blue short wig and the butterfly tassel hair accessories, the overall visual focus was concentrated on the face and upper body. The primarily black-and-white outfit with long black gloves formed a very clean and refreshing visual contrast with the light blue hair. During the shoot, I intentionally captured some relatively relaxed postures, such as the final few photos where I am lying down amidst the tulle veils and flowers. That pose with one foot lifted actually tested my body flexibility quite a bit, but it turned out to unexpectedly fit the character's little playfulness of being composed yet secretly relaxing.
In terms of lighting, the photographer used soft high-key lighting this time, leaving almost no heavy shadows in the frame. Combined with large areas of white and blue, it made the entire set of pictures look translucent and naturally ethereal. I particularly love the layer of texture revealed by the semi-transparent ruffles at the hem of the skirt under the bright light, which is also a part of anime-style photography that heavily tests light and shadow control. Together with subtle color grading in post-processing, it maintained a cool tone while preserving enough warmth on the face to avoid looking pale.
When attempting this roleplay of the character Ganyu from Genshin Impact, besides the precision of the costume and props, I believe grasping her expression is also very important. Although Ganyu is often busy with work, there is a natural klutzy focus and gentleness in her personality. I tried to maintain an elegant and dignified demeanor while infusing my gaze with a bit more peaceful observation. Although there were no complex movements on the shooting day, during various angle switches, I constantly adjusted the turn of my face and the angle of my jawline just to capture the most vivid frame.
The cooperation with the photographer was smooth all along, from adjusting the position of the wig to arranging the folds of the skirt; the control of details was very precise. After the final photos came out, I felt that this set was not just an external replication of the character, but moreover, an anime-style atmospheric expression that fits my own aesthetics. For someone like me who loves shooting such grand scenes and high-key styles, completing such a clean set of work brings a great sense of accomplishment.
