[Raiden Shogun Cosplay] Genshin Impact: Inazuma's Lightning and Serenity

A lot of thought went into this Raiden Shogun cosplay from miHoYo's Genshin Impact, from preparation to the shoot. The character herself has a very unique temperament, possessing both a majestic, commanding presence and a mountain-like stillness. As a male cosplayer portraying a female character, the biggest challenge isn't the physical form, but capturing the subtle facial expressions and aura. We used several different scenes and props for this shoot to showcase the character's multi-faceted nature, hoping to bring a fresh visual experience to everyone.

Let's start with the costume and makeup. For the wig, I chose straight, deep blue-purple hair with trimmed straight bangs, adorned with her signature purple flower and gold tassel hair ornament on the side—this detail is extremely important for accuracy. The eye makeup features a slightly winged eyeliner paired with purplish-red eyeshadow to make the gaze look deeper and sharper. To stay true to the character's design, the lip color was kept natural and refreshing, aiming to project a temperament of \"coldness with a touch of laziness.\"

The layers of the costume were actually much more complex than I expected. The main body of the garment is made of interwoven light purple and white fabrics, designed with a deep-V open collar. This cut actually demands high body proportions, and keeping one's posture steady while wearing it is key. There's a red cord knot at the waist, topped with a wide dark-blue corset featuring gold textured patterns. The hands are equipped with dark wrist guards, and the lower body is paired with deep purple over-the-knee boots with gold piping at the collar. Wearing the entire gear was actually quite heavy.

The props are also a major highlight of this set. During the shoot, we used her katana with a purple scabbard and gold hilt. Poses for unsheathing and sheathing the sword took a long time to shoot, as we had to adjust the stance to capture an effortless, chilling air of combat. Additionally, there was a writing desk scene setup, complete with a calligraphy brush, open scrolls, and a black Japanese-style sake bottle. Highlighted by these static props, it became easier to interpret the character's calm, composed mood even amidst the elegance of nature.

For the scene layout, the floor was covered with Japanese tatami mats, backed by a blue screen with gold patterns, with warm-toned paper lanterns placed alongside. The interplay between the cool blue background and the warm yellow light instantly maxed out the atmosphere. Among them is a dark-toned set where I was bound by iron chains. The icy metallic texture of the chains formed a stark contrast with the soft fabric of the costume. Although my movements were heavily restricted, it perfectly echoed the character's concept of \"Eternity,\" showcasing her calm and collected side even under captivity.

Oh, and the fox mask in my hand was another source of contrast. Featuring a white base with red and black painted lines, once put on, it added a touch of playfulness and mystery to the originally cold styling—a fun nod to \"a deity hiding in the mortal world.\" Just as the caption says, \"this femboy doesn't wish to reveal their gender,\" which is also an attitude I wanted to express. Gender is not a limitation in cosplay; superb makeup and styling, professional photography, and a deep understanding of the character design are what truly bring out a character's charm.

For post-processing, we didn't do any over-smoothing, preserving several makeup details and the texture of the fabric folds. The photographer's lighting was highly professional, knowing exactly how to use the warm light of the lanterns and the cool light of the backdrop to accentuate my contours. Doing cosplay for so many years, I feel more and more that a truly great work is when a group of people put their hearts into bringing a fictional character into reality and sharing it with everyone.
