For this Genshin Impact Columbina Cosplay photoshoot, the biggest difficulty in pre-production lay in managing the costume's layering and delicate fabrics. The main dress is made of irregular sheer tulle with a blue-and-white gradient, featuring a very long hem. Because the tulle is light and translucent, it easily snagged between the legs or caught on the high heels while walking. Thus, every time I adjusted my standing pose, I had to gently sweep the tulle aside by hand to keep the lines below the knees clean and sharp. The wig was long straight black hair with pink highlights on both sides—this color choice was meant to break the monotony of solid black, but the pink highlighted sections were sensitive to light, requiring constant adjustments to the hair direction and securing with bobby pins to avoid overly distracting glares. The white lace choker and off-the-shoulder sleeve designs were visually intricate, including metallic arm cuffs; these details not only had to fit the body snugly but also stay in place when lifting arms or turning around.
Matching the hazy, overcast atmosphere of Foggy City Photography, the chosen location's massive stone pillars and stone-paved ground created strong geometric framing. To accentuate the silhouette, the photographer utilized subtle wide-angle perspective. I spent most of the time leaning against the pillar base, placing my weight on my right leg while extending and crossing my left leg slightly forward, which perfectly showcased the perspective lines of the White stockings in the wide shot. The sheer texture of the White stockings produced a soft sheen against the gray backdrop of the pillars, offering exquisite texture.
During the shoot, we happened to encounter gusty winds; the skirt hem and strands of hair in hand were constantly blown about, often requiring us to wait for lulls in the wind to capture the shot. Regarding expression control, wearing a white cutout eye mask partially obstructed my line of sight and prevented eye contact, so I shifted to using neck lines, a slight tuck of the jawline, and overall posture to convey the character's serene, aloof coolness. Having the gaze covered was a unique experience, requiring body language to carry the emotion of this Anime girl.
To capture this shot well, I repeatedly adjusted the angle of leaning against the pillar to avoid stiffness, allowing body lines to form a natural diagonal while ensuring the skirt didn't stick awkwardly to the stone. The outdoor diffuse ambient light was soft, which tested the foundation's texture, so the makeup was intentionally given a matte finish with delicate contouring. In post-processing, the focus was on refining the light and shadow on the stone pavement to maintain its solemn depth, while dialing back distracting warm tones to unify the color scheme into a cool blue-and-white palette. Through this shoot, my grasp of this costume and understanding of composition progressed further, making it a truly dedicated, heartfelt endeavor.
